NAESP - REPORT TO PARENTS: Exposing Children to Career Choices
Take Your Child to Work Day (TYCTWD) will be on Thursday, April 27th, 2017. For some, children may join a parent during their workday to experience and see how being a member of a workplace team involves accepting responsibilities. Forbes recommends to: ask your employer, plan the day, talk to other parents to see what worked, lay ground-rules, make it real, and have them reflect. In this month's NAESP's Report to Parents: Exposing Children to Career Choices - families can begin to provide experiences with their children to to explore their goals and dreams as they learn and grow!
“'What do you want to be when you grow up?' Upon hearing this question, chances are that your children have no firm ideas about what they want to be or do—but it’s never too early to help them explore all the options out there. Now, more than ever, children are seeing that there’s nothing that they can’t achieve."

**Please Note - If your child participates in TYCTWD, please be sure to send a written-excuse note in-advance of April 27th.

Anxiety: How to Address Excessive Reassurance Seeking
Children look to their parents for information about the world. It is normal and helpful for parents to provide children with information about challenging situations. However, for some children, asking for reassurance about the same situation over and over again becomes an unhelpful way of coping.
Important Announcements
The Buckingham ROCK WALL - Grand Opening!
Over the last year-and-a-half, efforts were begun by Buckingham School and the Buckingham PTO to raise funds to install a Rock Wall in our gymnasium! With the coordination and efforts of the school and parent association, the new BUCKINGHAM ROCK WALL was installed over spring break. Work was begun during the days-off so that this project could be completed without disrupting the normal school schedule.
Students - get ready for a 'Rockin' Good Time in gym class upon our return from Spring Break! THANK YOU to our PTO Board (previous and current members) and all of our families who supported Buckingham's continued efforts to make our school a great place to be a kid! Mr. Durie and Mrs. Hendershot will be reviewing Rock Wall expectations and safety measures once we return from break the week of April 17th. It will be exciting times during gym! Climb-ON!
THANK YOU Buckingham PTO and Families!
School-Wide Reading Survey (for Parents) - Please Complete by May 5th!
Dear Buckingham Families,
This year, Buckingham has initiated a school-wide reading initiative in conjunction with the Bridge Valley Elementary Staff. Both schools completed a book-study to analyze and review the purposeful elements of good reading instruction in the classroom.
Buckingham has also celebrated reading through various school-wide activities with a vision to increase students' interest, stamina, volume and passion for independent reading throughout the school year. Initiatives included:
- Service-Learning Projects (Ghana Library),
- The exploration of new genres or series,
- Grade-Level Celebrations (1000+ Books, Flashlight Reading, Buddy Class Reading, Reading Parties, etc.),
- Spirit Days (Dress Like a Favorite Character, Read Across America Day),
- PTO/Family-Fun Events (Book Collection, Book Fair),
- And daily classroom read aloud and more!
Help us measure our efforts by completing an online READING survey for parents (link below) - to conclude by Friday, May 5th. Thank you in advance for completing this 15-question survey on our Reading Initiative – Your input will be used to continue to provide opportunities for ongoing student growth at Buckingham!
Thank You,
Mr. Funseth

Spirit Assembly - Music Technology!
He showed students the important relationship between the technology they have in their classrooms and the creation of the music and sounds they hear on their iPods and on TV. Student volunteers participated in the program by helping Brent create unique on-the-spot sounds. By the end of the show, an original song was used to raise the roof! Brent used his music and technology program as a vehicle for delivering an important message: the importance a student's education, great study habits and positive decision-making are keys for one's success in their career and in life!
