Principal Weekly Update (10/25/20) - Edition 7
Message from Principal Cain
Fall is in the air! I hope you all enjoyed a great weekend with this cooler weather. Having a special Halloween themed newsletter this week just felt right. ;)
Update on the recently announced reopening plans...since the district divulged its reopening plans, I want you to know that I am working with our district team to advocate for our systemic needs as a TK-8. I have felt encouraged as they have been responsive thus far. I hope there will be more to share soon, and I will keep you updated as always.
One glance at our weekly calendar below will indicate that there's a lot happening this week as we transition into our second quarter for middle school.
Please stay safe this week...lots of fun awaits us this weekend with Halloween falling on a Saturday! Don't miss events this week are the Halloween Flash Mob and Spirit Day on Friday as it's a great chance to dress up in your costumes and zoom.
Sincerely,
Michele Cain
Walk-up Materials Distributions This Week (Thurs. & Fri. 9-11am & 5-7pm)
In order to prepare for Quarter Two, Grant's next materials distribution will be taking place on Thurs., 10/29 and Fri., 10/30. The distribution will be walk up (not drive-through). It will take place in the Main Office entryway, and it will be based out of the rock wall room for PE. This is very important because on 10/30/20, the auditorium area will be closed off to all staff in order to prepare for the presidential election polling (Grant has been identified as a polling place...this should not interfere with our distribution)>
Parent/family distribution dates and times will be the following:
- THURS. 10/29/20: 9am - 11am; 5:00pm - 7:00pm
- FRI. 10/30/20: 9am - 11am; 5:00pm - 7:00pm
if your student has a teacher who needs to distribute materials to him or her, your teacher will have either contacted you already or will be doing so very soon via phone call or email in the near future.
If you filled out the PE Equipment Needs Form, you should come arrive during these times to pick up the equipment.
When you are coming to pick up your learner's materials, you may want to plan additional time to park your vehicle. Please wear a mask and observe the 6ft of physical distancing should a line form. We will post as many distancing markers as we can.
Before you leave your house, please write your student's first and last name as well as his or her grade level and quarter two teachers on a piece of paper. This will be very helpful to the staff members who receive you and will help us to expedite retrieving your materials (remember, textbooks must be checked out to each student, so these items require a bit more time).
Pick up will be at the front doors to the main office at Grant during the times above.
We appreciate your patience if a line forms and will do everything possible we can to move things along quickly and safely.
We have worked diligently to plan multiple times in order to accommodate busy schedules. Please do try your hardest to make it to one of these times if you have materials that need to be picked up. In the case of extenuating circumstances, please contact Vice Principal Julia Martinez to coordinate an alternative time by emailing JMartinez11@sandi.net.
Thank you!

Imagine Campaign Extended to Wednesday!
From our PTA:
Congratulations Ms. Brandt’s, Ms. Jimenez’s and Ms. Wilson’s classes! You have exceeded the 75% participation goal, and all students will receive ice cream prizes!
Some classes are SO CLOSE to hitting 75% class participation! We’ve decided to extend our deadline to Wednesday 10/28 so more classes can earn ice cream prizes!
Remember, donations are easy online! www.grantk8.org Your contribution of any amount makes a difference. Thank you so much!
We rely on your critical donations to help keep the Grant STEAM programs we consider vital for our kids' education. Money raised by the Imagine Campaign pays the salaries of our science coordinator, Elena Banks and art instructor, Sarah Ekedal. The school district does not pay their salaries - WE do!
