What's new inside Springfield Public Schools - March 2019
A Selection is Made
During the March 11, business meeting the Springfield Board of Education will formalize their selection of Todd Hamilton as the next Superintendent for Springfield Public Schools.
With the assistance of search firm executives from McPherson and Jacobsen, the board embarked on a nationwide search to fill the vacancy left by former Superintendent Sue Rieke-Smith. Throughout the winter months, stakeholder input was gathered from focus groups and a community survey outlining the community's desired characteristics of the next district leader.
During the week of February 19, interviews were held with top candidates and representatives from groups across the district. The interview panel insight was shared with the board who then met in executive session to interview and fully vet the top applicants. By Friday, February 22, the board was unanimous in their support of Hamilton to guide SPS into the next chapter.
"We are thankful for all of the support we've received throughout this process," Board Chair Zach Bessett shared, "and we are confident that Todd is the right person to continue the positive momentum gained in recent years."
Hamilton shared in a message to SPS staff, his respect for the work that has taken place and an admiration for the 'can do' approach of the Springfield community. "I am honored to have been selected to serve the district and its students," Hamilton said. "As a resident of the area for more than 20 years, I'm aware of Springfield's 'can do' approach. It is a community that sees opportunity and works to achieve its goals."
Hamilton will join SPS after leading the Creswell School District as their superintendent since 2011.
Hamilton will join SPS in July of 2019. Opportunities for the community to meet and get to know Hamilton will be announced in the coming months.
