Grade 6 Information
This year is going by quickly! We are already in the final trimester. Trimester 3 is going to be the final push at getting students ready for grade 7. Students are really going to need to work at managing their time effectively with the nicer weather coming and with many outdoor activities and sports starting. Guidance lessons this month will focus on learning styles, personal goals, and time management. Students with academic concerns for failing will be meeting with Mrs. Funaro to discuss ways to improve grades and how to end the year successfully!
Grade 7 Information
April already!! As we continue through this final trimester for the year, students should be putting their best foot forward to get ready for 8th-grade. Guidance lessons will be planned to help students prepare. Students with academic concerns for failure will be meeting with Ms. Jacobs/Mrs. DeHaan to discuss how to improve grades so they can finish the year successfully.
Grade 8 Information
April showers bring....High School Transition meetings! 8th graders who have 504 plans will have meetings at Sheehan or Lyman Hall and if they plan on attending another high school, a representative from that school will be invited. The first round of meetings is scheduled for April 23rd. Additional dates in May and June will be scheduled.
Students who are at risk for failing will have individual goal setting meeting with Mrs. Barber-Devine in order to strategize about how to finish the year successfully!
Good To Know Information
Spring Fever
With Spring Break right around the corner, students are being cautioned not to catch Spring Fever and let their school work slide! Counselors continue to meet with students of academic concern and reinforce good study habits. Students are encouraged to seek extra help during enrichment, and of course, to attend school on time and on a regular basis!
Meetings, Meetings, and More Meetings
For students with a 504 plan, Spring is often a time for the plan's annual review so counselors are busy setting up meetings with parents and teachers to review accommodations. Please contact the appropriate counselor if you have any questions about accommodations! Spring is also jam-packed with transition 504s and PPTs from both elementary to middle and middle to high school. It also means it is time to start transition activities with incoming 5th-grade students. Counselors will be visiting elementary schools to help 5th-graders with Encore and World Language course selections.
High School Decisions
Many 8th-grades applied to high schools other than Sheehan. Options are a good thing! Students have been asked to let Mrs. Barber-Devine know if they've decided on what high school they will be attending next year if it is not Sheehan. It is very important that Moran notifies Sheehan with as accurate of a list of students attending and not attending Sheehan as possible. Please let Guidance know as soon as you know!! Thank you!
On The Team
On the Team is a charity sponsored program by Mr. Brennan with support from the Wallingford Youth and Social Services. This charity gives money to students whose families cannot afford athletic sign-ups, equipment, camps, etc. Only middle school aged and under are eligible. Please contact Guidance for an application.
