Happy Thanksgiving!
Giving Thanks
Thank you, families! 🧡
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday! I love slowing down and reflecting on all that I have to be thankful for in my life. In addition to my family, I am thankful for the Glenview community for the trust that they have placed in me as I teach their children. I wish you all a very relaxing holiday. May you find the time to reflect on all the wonderful people in your lives and your blessings.
Reminder: Students and Cough Drops
Students are not allowed to self-administer cough drops in school. If you feel that there is a need for your child to have cough drops in school, please contact Mrs. Hastings, our school nurse at jhastings@glenview34.org. Thank you for your support!
Learning Updates
- Science - The Motion and Stability Unit is coming to an end. Students have been recording some of their investigations on their iPads to capture their learning.
- Social Studies - We will begin our exploration of geography after Thanksgiving Break.
- Math - Unit 3 will continue after Thanksgiving Break.
- Reading - We will introduce Narrative nonfiction text after break. We are building our understanding of how to read both expository nonfiction and narrative nonfiction.
- Writing - We are finishing our nonfiction writing pieces. The students have been very focused and dedicated as they write create their books. It has been awesome watching them spend time editing and decorating their books.
- Spellography is off to a great start. We first looked at word origins and now are working on phonemes (each sound of a word), graphemes (letter combinations that make sounds), and just started morphemes (root words or parts of words like prefixes or suffixes). We do it 10-15 minutes 4-5 days a week and it has been really interesting. I love what the students are learning!!!! It is actually really engaging and the students love participating (and writing on the "smart tv") wile we complete each lesson.

Pictures
You may notice in the pictures that students have started doing projects on things they are interested in. I try and take pictures when I can, but it doesn't always happen. So far students have created slide shows on Diwali, Forces and Motion (to go with our science unit), led crafts to celebrate Thanksgiving, and led a guided drawing during "Fun Friday". How could I turn down the request, "What if kids don't have anyone to play with at Fun Friday, maybe I could lead a drawing video." So while I played chess with another group of students, a students led the class. These types of leadership opportunities I LOVE and LOVE to encourage. If your student is expressing an interest in something, please encourage them to talk to me. I am very creative with time and can find time to work with them and help them present something.
