Skyview School of STEM
October 12, 2023
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Skyview families,
I love this time of year! The cool mornings followed by the warm afternoons make some of my favorite days. We see students coming to school with shorts and sandals paired with jackets and hats, and that seems to fit the trends of our days. These major temperature swings also mean that our students are wearing jackets to recess and then leaving them outside when they get warm. Please help your children remember to check our lost and found if they are missing their jackets or other items.
There has been so much great learning taking place in our classrooms over the last couple months! Conferences are coming up the weeks of October 23 and 30. Our goal is to have 100% family participation on these weeks. Please sign up for one conference time with your child’s teacher so they are able to share your kid’s progress.
Remember that Thursday and Friday this week are non-student contact days. Our staff will be at school continuing to grow professionally and preparing for the coming months of teaching. We will see you all on Monday. Our next days off will be November 2nd and 3rd. Please remember to schedule necessary childcare for these days.
Have a wonderful long weekend with family and friends,
Evan Netzer
Skyview Principal
Attendance
Please call the attendance line (970)686-8505 before 8:30am if your child is going to be absent from school or report absences in the Parent Portal. An automated call will go out at 8:45am if the student is marked absent and we haven't received a call from the parent. The student will be marked unexcused until we hear from a parent. While it is good to let classroom teachers know via email, please do report absences to the office so that we can properly record them. The District Attendance Policy is linked to the photo if you would like to read it.
Treating the School Staff
Hello Skyview Families!
To show appreciation for the Skyview School of STEM staff, the Mailbox Elves like to provide a small token in each mailbox one day during a specified month. This year we have about 78 mailboxes to fill and we try to keep each token under or around $1 per person so any participation is appreciated no matter how large or small. Below is a signup link that offers different opportunities each month for help in providing supplies or monetary donations to put together these special tokens for the staff. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0D4CACAC2DA3F58-44431638-skyview
We ask that any donated items be dropped off or sent by the date indicated for each month's slot on the signup as this will ensure the delivery will be made before any holiday breaks. For questions, item drop off locations, and monetary donation instructions please email Kelsey Hewell directly at hewellhouse@gmail.com for further instructions.
Thank you for your time and contributions! The teachers and staff at Skyview are amazing and we look forward to brightening their remaining days throughout this school year!
Immunization Compliance
Attention parents! By October 30th your student must be compliant with the state immunization process either by being up to date with current required immunizations or by completing the exemption process. If your student is not compliant, they will be excluded from school starting October 30th. You can view your student's immunization record and status on the parent portal by selecting "more" from the menu options, then selecting "health, immunizations."
Please contact Mrs Cobb in the health office with any questions. 970-686-8512.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you received an email on 9/12/23 stating your student was missing immunizations but you have already submitted immunizations and/or your student is up to date, no further action is needed at this time. If your student is still missing immunizations and/or you have not yet submitted an exemption, you will receive a letter and/or phone call from the health office advising of such. Please note, you may check your student’s immunization status by logging into you Parent Portal on Infinite Campus.

Safe Schools Month: District Safety & Security Department
October is Safe Schools Month - a time to bring a focus on how our district and larger community can work together to make our schools safer and more secure. In Weld RE-4, we believe that in order to thrive in the classroom, students must have safe and secure learning environments. Safe and secure learning environments are fostered in our schools through: a Standard Response Protocol, safety plans, drills and exercises, secure entrances, screened visitors, security cameras, ID cards for staff and high school students, web filters and security settings, emergency response planning, and partnerships with local emergency services. These are just a handful of the items that comprise our safety program. Learn More
Dressing up for Halloween?
Every year we get several phone calls about what kids can and cannot do as far as dressing up for Halloween. If a student chooses to dress up, please adhere to the following rules:
- No props of any kind may be brought to school (This includes swords, weapons, fairy wands, etc.)
- Face paint or temporary hair color must be applied at home and not brought to school. (All face paint must be removed by the next school day.)
- No time will be given at school to dress up.
- No masks may be worn.
- Absolutely no gore, blood or fangs.
- The student’s costume must allow the student to participate in any school activities that happen during the school day. This includes PE and recess.
- When designing costumes, please be mindful that we do have preschoolers in our building, we want them to be comfortable and not scared.
Visiting/Volunteering? Don't forget your ID
As part of our ongoing efforts to increase the safety and security of our schools, we will continue to require all visitors and volunteers to be processed through the Raptor Technologies screening system. All non-staff members wishing to access the school building will need to provide a state / government-issued ID at check in. Volunteers must reapply each school year.
Visitors
Visitors typically do not work with students unsupervised and are not engaging with regular and ongoing volunteer activities. Utilizing a state or government issued ID, all visitors will be screened against the registered sex offender database.
Volunteers (including field trip chaperones)
Volunteers are involved on a more regular and ongoing basis and may be alone with students. All volunteers must complete an application and background check that includes a search of the national criminal database, sex offender list, and terrorist watchlist. Once an account has been created and the application has been approved, you will be able to login and review volunteer opportunities at your selected schools. Apply Now (English|Spanish)
