Sherburn Hungate Weekly News - Spring Term - Issue 5
A word from Mr Broom
I've been spending a great deal of time working with our maths team this week, looking at teaching for mastery across all classes in school. I must say that the quality of teaching and learning is as high now as I've seen in my leadership career and, through the support of Miss Mackay, it's only going to get stronger. I also did a progress check looking at writing. The children's pride in producing incredibly high quality pieces of work make me very proud. Next week, we have colleagues from a variety of schools coming to look at our approaches to mathematics and writing. Something for us all to be proud of.
Have a great weekend.

School Attendance - A Great Response
You might recall that in last week's newsletter, I was really concerned about the level of attendance across school, having fallen to a two-year low of 91.4%. I've held meetings and had several phone calls with persistent absentee parents and the staff have been talking about good attendance in class almost every day. Our drive seems to have worked and attendance this week is almost back to 96%. Thank you for your continued support.
It's important that children attend school regularly and at Sherburn Hungate we recognise that excellent attendance leads to excellent achievement. Fact!
Our attendance for this week is 95.6%, which is just short of our 96% target. Let's hope that next week we'll meet it together.
We know that there's lots of bugs around because we've had staff illness too. However, please help us by sending your children to school when they only have sniffles. If they're not well enough to be here, we will send them home.
Our top attending class this week is Year 1 with 98.8%
