Ms. Wittmann's Peek at the Week
September 21-25
Dear Families,
Welcome to the third week of school. Thank you for your patience and grace as we roll out distance learning.
We are going to continue assessing students this week in small groups so we can plan for small group instruction. We will also be hosting small friendship groups for your children as well. We know how important it is for them to socialize with their peers. I will be in the friendship group with the students but I will only be there to supervise not to teach. I want the children to have time to talk to one another, share their pets, bedrooms, learning spaces, etc.
Have a great week. Please reach out to me with questions any time.
Warmly,
Ms. Wittmann
Our Learning This Week!
MATH: This week we will be starting our first math unit. We will learn that numbers have places and that each place has a different value. We will represent numbers up to 100,000, we will look at numbers and determine 100, 1,000, or 10,000 more or less than a given number, we will round and estimate numbers, and create and order two digit numbers. We will not meet with small math groups this week.
FRIENDSHIP GROUPS: Students will be meeting in Friendship groups this week during our live google meets from 12:30-1:00 every day. Please watch the schedule to see which day your child will go on google meet and have talk time with their classmates. This will be a supervised "play date" for your child. It is not mandatory to come, but will help grow and strengthen social skills and connections with others.
JOURNALING: We will continue journaling this week. There will be a different journal prompts each day of the week. Students should use the black and white composition notebook that I brought to them in their bags. Please be sure your child not only draws about their thinking but also writes 2-5 sentences about their journal prompt. They should take a photo of their journal entry and post it to their seesaw assignment.
SPECIALIST: Students will go to MUSIC this week at 11:20 every day. This is a live google meet for now. It is important that your child attends so they don't miss the instruction on how to access their specialist assignments. Code: music3w
