News & Notes from Mrs. Kapuchuck
Dear Families,
Happy Super Bowl Sunday! Happy Groundhog Day! Happy Palindrome Day!
We are off to a great start to the second semester of school! Tomorrow is SPORTS day! Students and staff are invited to wear their team's favorite shirt, jersey, uniform to celebrate your favorite team or sport!
Last Monday, Dr. Scheikl proposed a pilot program for staggered start times in the TA district for the upcoming school year, which includes Mountain View Elementary. This pilot will be discussed and possibly voted on at the board meeting on Monday, February 10th at Wilbur Pence Middle School. The meeting begins at 7:00 pm. Approximate times for elementary students are 8am-2pm and approximately 9am-3pm for secondary. All parents are invited to attend these meetings in order to stay current on the proposed changes.
I am excited to announce that beginning Monday, Ms. Alex Layman will join the MVES team as a Behavior Support Assistant. We have been so fortunate to have Ms. Brubaker in this role all year and due to the high need for this position, we were able to hire an additional person. Ms. Brubaker and Ms. Layman work closely with students who need additional support with behavioral needs. This is a much needed position in many of our RCPS schools and we are so fortunate to have both of these ladies at MVES.

THE FLU
Flu season is officially here at MVES. Over the past few days, we have had an increase in illness and confirmed cases of the flu. Here at school, we are encouraging frequent hand washing and our custodians are working hard to keep all spaces sanitized. As always, your child should stay home from school if he/she has a fever greater than 100 degrees F and should not return to school until he/she has been fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medicine for at least 24 hours. See the flu guides attached.
Please, as always, call the school or send an email to mvesattendance@rockingham.k12.va.us if your child will be absent from school.
Thank you so much for all of your help in keeping our students healthy! Please feel free to contact Leslie Kapuchuck and/or Nurse Wanda if you have any questions at 540-438-1965.
Conference Day
Parent/Teacher conference day is on Thursday, February 6 from 1:30-7:30. Teachers have sent home sign up sheets for you to choose a time that is convenient for you. Please be sure to fill it out and return it as soon as possible.
Thank you for your generous food donations that have been brought in so far. We are still in need of cheese, sour cream, and salad. Please see the attached link if you are able to donate food for our faculty dinner on this day. We greatly appreciate your support and thank you in advance.
