Life in Room 251
It's been a Great Start to 4th Grade!
Students have been enjoying our first content unit of study: Nature Unleashed. This study is made possible by a grant from the Missouri Department of Conservation. Students are using their knowledge of the MO ecosystems to design and create an artificial ecosystem. The construction process is almost complete, and we will begin adding living organisms soon! We will observe, collect data and make changes to our biodomes over the next month. Some may even be selected to take part in the MDC science fair this spring! Nature Unleashed will also provide a field trip to the Valley Watermill Watershed so that we can experience all 3 MO ecosystems (the pond, prairie and forest) on guided hikes and explorations. More information will be coming soon!
Discovering the Schoolyard Ecosystem
Students explored the living and non living things that have built their homes right under our feet on our very own playground. We've been watching for ways they interact with one another.
Planning Biodome Structures
Students are studying how others have created artificial ecosystems and are making a plan that will support living things. They are applying their knowledge of what living things need to survive in an authentic context.
Creating Biodome Habitats
Students putting their plans into action! We used recycled 2 liter bottles, soil, rock, water, seeds and any organism that they can safely catch from our schoolyard ecosystem.
