Last Week...February 1st-4th

  • Wow...what a crazy weather week! Let's hope for 4 days next week instead of 2:)
  • Thursday, we drew our February self portraits. The children are doing such a good job adding details to their drawings. We had the chance to take a look back at previous pictures to see how we are changing in skills. You will have a chance to take a look at them at Parent/Teacher Conferences in March.
  • We talked about our five senses. Continue discussing what our five senses are and having your child be able to explain what sense they are using during activities. For example: What sense are you using when...
  1. Reading a book (see with eyes)
  2. Eating dinner (taste with mouth)
  3. Riding in the car with the radio on (hear with ears)
  4. Playing with play dough (touch with hands)
  5. Drawing with smelly markers (smell with nose)
  • We worked on number 1 & 2 worksheets. As I looked over the sheets, I noticed a few children might have missed some parts of the activity. Take a look with your child and see if they can notice what they forgot to complete on the sheet, We are continuing to practice for homework/math sheets they will receive next year as Kindergartners.

This Week... February 8th-11th

  • We will be practicing reading skills with a pocket chart about opposites. I will be introducing the words "I" and "am".
  • I will be introducing writing paper with a sentence line at the bottom. I will model an "I am" sentence using one of our opposite words from the pocket chart. I will encourage the children to practice writing an "I am" sentence too. Continue having your child draw and write letters/words at home.
  • At community circle, I will ask the children to say one nice thing about the friend sitting next to them. Compliment your child and see if they can give other family members a compliment.
  • I will be sending home another math game called Cover That Number. It deals with numbers 11-20. The children can continue working on identifying and counting higher numbers. See if your child can explain the game to you...we will practice at school before sending it home.
