November 15, 2020
Dear Families,
It's a rainy Sunday morning as I pull together some updates for you. I am between trips to the airport with our grown daughters coming and going this week and I find myself thinking about how URCEO's first year is a bit like a flight to an exciting and unknown destination. The first term is behind us. It felt like we were stalled at the gate waiting for permission to take off longer than usual. Once we hit the runway it was a bumpy start. Despite the turbulence, we have begun to gain some altitude. We have two new teachers on staff and it's making a difference! Ms. Rennels transferred to us from Hillside Elementary and is teaching kindergarten and first grade. Mr. McClellan answered the call for a part-time math teacher and took over instruction last week. We are glad to have them as part of our crew!
The transition to the second term for secondary students still involved some technical delays, but I believe everyone's schedule is synched now and it's full course ahead! I am so grateful to our families that strapped in and have stayed onboard with us. Now it's time to strengthen our programs. Below is a reminder about this week's Title I event. I hope you can make the time to participate because family partnership is a critical part of our work as a Title I school. There's also a school survey embedded below. Your feedback is important to us. I'm counting on you to help us identify how we can improve your family's experience and support your student's academic achievements this year. Thank you in advance for engaging in these activities!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Green
WHY this background for the first Smore Newsletter?
The meeting will share important information about our Title I school status and what that means for your student. There will be giveaways throughout the hour and trivia fun for the whole family! Want more resources to help you score in trivia? Find a dime, a paperclip, and a book and bring them with you to our Zoom meeting! Offered in Spanish and English.
We value your feedback! Please complete this survey to help us know how to better serve you and our students.

It Matters!
Attendance in each class is required Monday-Friday.
On Mondays and Thursdays, we take attendance in the required SynchMeets. Help us reach 100% attendance for this vital part of online school when students can interact in real time with their teacher and peers!
On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, secondary students complete a form to indicate attendance. The Attendance Check-In Form is linked in each of your student's classes.

GED Program
We have a record number of students enrolled in the independent GED Program and every week, we get new students who are interested in this opportunity. Our GED webpage had been updated with important information every family should discuss before applying.
We are adding FUEL to the GED program this quarter. This new support system for our GED students is outlined in students' Canvas course and is designed to help students achieve their goals through a process of deliberate actions. If you want to learn more about what we are doing to support our GED scholars, please contact Mrs. Green.
