Our Work This Week
The theme for our summer is Oceans. This week we read the story "Beach Fun" and "There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Shell". The story were about different things we see in the ocean and on the beach. We worked on comprehension skills, sequencing, and started building our Ocean vocabulary. Some of the vocabulary words we talked about this week were ocean, waves, shark, dolphin, shells, beach, fish, crab, coral reef, seaweed, lobster, clown fish, puffer fish, pelican, sea turtle, hermit crab, fisherman, beach ball, and splash. We started our summer writing journal writing about things we can see in the ocean. In math, we reviewed comparing numbers using fewer, more, greater than, and less than.
On Tuesday, we made Mermaid Soda (rainbow sherbet and 7-Up). On Wednesday, we painted puffer fish. They turned out very cute!
Student Jobs
We will continue having student jobs during ESY. Students will rotate every 2 days through the classroom jobs. Since it is a shorter day and time, we will have the following student jobs during the month of June: calendar helper, weather helper, line leader, caboose, morning dj, paper helper, and a substitute. Students will also get to be our lunch helper. Each morning, a different student will get to take our daily lunch count on the SmartBoard. Ask your child about any student job they may have had each day.
Driving Panthers to Reading Success
We would like to invite you to participate in the 3rd Annual Driving Panthers to Reading Success! Like last year, Chinn staff will be coming to a location near you for a children's book exchange once a week during the month of June. If you don't have a book to exchange, simply show up to receive one, free of charge. To help beat the heat, we provide complimentary refreshments for all throughout the remaining dates. Make sure to mark your calendar with the locations and times. Please join us as many times that you're available.
June 19th - Monday - 5 - 5:45 pm Chinn cafeteria AND 6 - 7:00 pm North Lakes Swimming Pool
June 26th - Final session
In case of inclement weather, we will continue the book exchange in the Chinn cafeteria between 5:00 and 7:00 pm on the scheduled evening.
To ensure student safety, please provide supervision for your children throughout the event.
Tid Bits
* Every Thursday, we will go to the library to check out books. The books will stay at school but don't let that stop you from reading each day. Don't forget about our weekly Driving Panthers to Reading Success.
*Please make sure to check the YELLOW folder daily.
* If your child has a change in their bus transportation such as sick and not attending school, please make sure to call the bus company to let them know. The number for the bus company is 816-741-4023. Let them know the student's name, school, and bus number.
