"Be a gift of love and compassion for one another."
St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
Our prayers and thoughts are with one of our families who had an immediate family member pass away over the weekend. They are also for Ron van den Beuken who recently passed away. He was father of Romain Meyer (Year 1) and Genevieve Meyer (Kindy) and partner of Caroline Rohana Meyer. The funeral will be held this Saturday 17 August 2019, at 9:30am at St Columba's Parish, South Perth. The school is providing support to the families in the manner they wish.
There have been a number of queries re our school website and out dated information. It is currently being revamped and we would hope that by the end of Term 4 the new version will be up and running.
Congratulations to Mrs Robinson who has accepted a position at another Catholic school as an Assistant Principal. Mrs Robinson will take up the position at the start of Term 4. I wish her all the best and I take the opportunity to thank her for her work while at St Columba’s.
Congratulations to our Robo Cup girls who made it to the finals last week. A fantastic effort and a big thank you to Mrs Van Der Bijl for organising and training them for the competition.
Just a reminder to families, that as a primary school, the Principal does become involved in student issues on a regular basis. I will speak to students for a variety of reasons but usually to circumvent future issues. The involvement can be from discipline issues through to advice on peer relationships and how to make friends and play successfully in the playground. Families should not be alarmed that I have spoken to their child, because if the issue was serious, the school would be in touch with them. With most incidents I am merely giving advice to students and this prevents further issues from occurring. Just because I am speaking to them does not mean that they will be in trouble.
I will be away the last three weeks of this term. I will be overseas attending a course for the Catholic Education Office. Mrs Komnick will be the acting Principal in my absence and Mrs Sadowski will be working an extra day each week to cover for some of Mrs Komnick's admin work.
God bless.
Allen McMahon
Principal

Junior Robocup State Competition
On Friday, the Robotics groups participated in the Junior Robocup State competition. Both teams have worked hard since the beginning of the year building and programming their robots. The boys choreographed a Jedi battle between Darth Vadar and Luke Skywalker. The girls told the story of Moana and her people setting sail to find new land. The girls’ team was successful in advancing through to the finals which were held on Saturday. Both teams should be very proud of all the work they have put into their performances.

Altar Serving Training - Holy Family Parish
Altar Serving is a valued role within our Parish community. It involves serving once a month during a weekend Mass (6pm Saturday, 8:30am and 10am Sunday).
A training session will be conducted on Saturday 7 September 2019 at Holy Family (corner Canning Highway and Thelma Street, Como). This is for any child who has made their First Holy Communion or perhaps those who wish to return to the ministry. At Holy Family we have 4 to 5 Altar Servers rostered for each Mass. It really is a great way to get to know others in the community.
Please contact Amanda (93672738) for more information or to confirm attendance.
