Flipgrid
Amplify Student Voice!
What is Flipgrid?
What is Flipgrid?
Flipgrid is a social learning platform that allows educators to ask questions or give prompts, then allows students respond in a video. Students are then able to respond to one another, creating a “web” of discussion.
A FLIPHUNT is an engaging way to get your students moving and having fun while exploring the curriculum. It is basically a video-based scavenger hunt using Flipgrid.
While we are challenged daily to incorporate the 4Cs into our lessons, I think this tool is extremely valuable. This strategy empowers students to be creative, collaborate with others, communicate what they know, and critically think all in one lesson!
Today, I am going to take you through the steps of creating your Flipgrid Educator account first, and then you will have the opportunity to create your own Fliphunt for use in your classroom!
Click the button below to see an example of Flipgrid in action.
Now, let's start with the basics.
Step 1 - Create an Account
Click the button below to sign up for a Flipgrid Educator account. (Yes, it is 100% free!)
Be sure to "Sign up with Google" for the easiest registration steps.
Step 2 - Create Your First "Grid"
(Click "All set" if you haven't done so already)
Yours should look similar to the screenshot below.
Step 3 - Create Your First Topic
If you don't have any ideas for what you want to do yet, I suggest including a Giphy (GIF) to get your students attention with humor.
There are even more options available that you are free to explore if you click on "More options."
Some of my favorite additional features are: Topic Tips, Video Moderation On/Off, Video Editing and On/Off
When you are done customizing your topic, click "Create Topic" in the bottom righthand corner.
Below is what your assignment should look like more or less.
Ideas for Flipgrid Topics
- Have students draw pictures of characters in a book or story then create a talking picture of their character in ChatterPix. Upload the ChatterPix file to Flipgrid.
- Use the filters in Snapchat to create a video to upload into Flipgrid.
- Explain a Science experiment.
- Tell how to solve a math equation step-by-step.
- Have teachers create a video introducing themselves and their class to new students.
- Have students welcome new students to their school.

Creating Your First Fliphunt
Below are some more examples provided by other teachers on Twitter through the hashtags #fliphunt and #fliphuntfever. The first is an example of a Fliphunt I used in my classroom. It was adapted from the one you will find right below it!
What Will You Create?
You can also explore the "Disco Library" in the Flipgrid Educator platform for TONS of examples and ideas that have already been created! Just scroll to the bottom and type in "fliphunt" in the search bar! You can even customize it to your subject and content to see what teachers have created specifically for those areas! If you see something you like just click "Add to faves" to save the ones you love all in one place! You can even assign topics directly to your classes/Grids through the Disco Library.
I have created a template for you to get started creating your first fliphunt below. Please let me know if you have any questions at all! Happy hunting!
