Principal's Welcome Letter

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! I am honored and humbled to serve the Tamanend community as Principal. Throughout my career, I have committed myself to helping young people cultivate their interests and realize their true potential. I firmly believe in cultivating positive relationships so that students, parents, colleagues, and the community at-large can feel valued and engaged in the important work we do each day at Tamanend.

Middle school students are busy growing personally, socially, and academically. The middle school experience is a time for exploration, discovery, practice, and growth. At Tamanend, teachers, staff members, parents, community members, and peers work together to help each child find his or her own definition of success. That is why we promote the idea that we are “Tamanend Together.” Our community approaches new ideas, successes, and challenges together.

We are very excited to welcome everyone back to Tamanend for in-person learning for the 2021-2022 school year! We look forward with to the many Tamanend events and traditions that we will be able to once again hold in-person. We look forward to welcoming our 7th Graders to the Tamanend family. We look forward to welcoming our online students back to in-person learning. We look forward to creating new memories and setting new standards for excellence. We look forward to doing all of these things together.

Tamanend is committed to ensuring that every child has a positive experience at our school. We work hard to ensure that we have financial supports in place for families in need. Please be aware that we can help with the following resources:

  • Food--pantry with healthy snacks and personal care items available all day outside of Guidance; meals to take home (students and/or parents and guardians can contact Mrs. Consoletti in the Guidance Office or Mrs. Myrtetus in the Health Office); weekend food packages to take home (students and/or parents and guardians can contact Mrs. Consoletti in the Guidance Office or Mrs. Myrtetus in the Health Office)
  • Clothing
  • Internet access

Laptop Information for 2021-2022

We hope that you had a relaxing summer. Our Technology & Innovation team is gearing up for the 2021-22 school year which includes handing out student laptops.

Over the past four years, Central Bucks has offered a 1-to-1 laptop program for our secondary students. The success of this effort combined with the necessities brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, have informed our decision to provide all students in Central Bucks the same opportunity. Our Initiative will provide mobile, wireless technology to all of our students, while enhancing our instructional delivery whether students are at home or in school.

The Technology and Innovation department is excited to kick off our student device distribution for the 2021-2022 school year today. All Central Bucks’ students will either receive a device this year or continue to use the device that was issued last year. Below is a chart that lists the device that will be issued by grade level as well as the cost of the usage fee. The tentative distribution date for 7th Grade laptop distribution is Friday, August 20 (which is the date of our open house) from 8:00 until 3:00.

Even if your child has his/her own device, we are asking that you participate in our program to allow for a consistent learning platform for our students. All students in a grade level will receive a device equipped with: internet filtering, software, tech support for break/fix, and access to instructional tools and resources used by our teachers. You can learn more on our FAQ page: https://www.cbsd.org/Page/38121

First Steps for Families:

The first step prior to distribution is to enroll online and pay a usage fee. The usage fee covers the at-home and in-school use of a device, a charger, and insurance for accidental breaks. We have different pricing structures for elementary students as they will pay $10 a year for a 7-year school career (K-6). Secondary families will pay $75 in 7th grade and $75 in 10th grade. Each payment will be good for three years. We have prorated payments for all secondary students that are new to Central Bucks.

Who has to pay the fee?

All students in grades K-6, 7, 10, 12+, and new families must complete the steps below prior to receiving a device. Students in grades 8, 9, 11, and 12 who already have a district device do not require any action at this time.

What steps does a family need to take prior to device handout?

  1. Visit: https://www.cbsd.org/1to1
  2. Parent/Guardian and Student will click on and read the 1:1 Handbook.
  3. Parent/Guardian signs the user agreement and pays* the user fee via MyPaymentsPlus (MPP). Upon submitting the fee and MPP agreement you are confirming that you have reviewed the information with your child.

The Fee Table:

*Please note that the fee is reduced for families who are economically disadvantaged. You will see the balance as $0 when entering MPP. All families still need to complete steps 1-3 even if the balance is $0.

Big picture

7th Grade Laptop Distribution Date is August 20

Please make sure you complete the User Agreement and pay the fee in MyPaymentsPlus (details above) prior to August 20.

Tamanend Fall Sports

We hope your child is looking forward to a new school year. Family ID is currently open for FALL SPORTS registration. All 7th and 8th grade students interested in playing a Fall sport for Tamanend this year must be registered on the Family ID web site. Information that pertains to practices/tryouts and seasons will only be distributed to those who are registered on Family ID. All student-athletes must have completed PIAA physicals uploaded to Family ID prior to the start of the Fall sports season. The PIAA physical forms can be found HERE. Additional items are outlined and explained on the Tamanend Athletics web page.

Summer Reading--There is Still Time to Read Some Great Books!

In an effort to generate enthusiasm for reading during the summer months, our summer reading program provides students with CHOICES. Our goal is to have students reading on a regular basis because they choose to do so. When students are interested and engaged in a book, reading becomes a meaningful part of their lives. For this reason, we encourage students to choose books that interest them. We encourage you to be involved in conversations with your child about the book(s) they choose to read. When family plays an active role in their child’s reading life, students can witness firsthand the role reading can play in their lives. Students in Grades 7-9 at Tamanend Middle School are encouraged to read one or more fiction, nonfiction book or graphic novel of their choice. In the Fall, students will participate in fun activities surrounding Summer Reading. You can find the Tamanend Summer Reading Sway here. The list of books in the Sway was generated to help students spark some ideas for summer reading. Remember, students may select books listed in the Sway OR any title of their choosing, as long as it is middle-school appropriate.

Thank you for being an important part of our reading community!
