Assassination of Abraham Lincoln

When and Location

Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on April 14, 1865. This occurred at Ford's Theater in Washington D.C. Lincoln was shot at 10:15. This happened only five days after Robert E. Lee surrendered and ended the American Civil War.

Who and How

The person who killed Abraham Lincoln was actually a Confederate sympathizer and a famous actor. His name was John Wilkes Booth. Booth went into Lincoln's box and shot him in the back of his head. He then jumped into the stage yelling the Virginia state motto and at first everyone thought it was part of the play until the first lady screamed then people thought different.

Other/Extra Information.

A doctor name Charles Leale rushed into the president's box. After that many several carried Lincoln to a house across the street and later that day he died on a bed in the house. 57 years later, a sculptor named Daniel Chester French created the famous statue of Lincoln on May 30, 1922. This was now Memorial Day
