Lilburn Middle School Newsletter - NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2017
Principal's Corner 12/5/2017
Greetings to All:
It’s hard to believe, but we are nearing the end of our first semester of school. Most importantly, our students will be taking their final exams on Thursday, December 14th (1st & 3rd Academics) and Friday, December 15th (2nd & 4th Academics). Please make sure that appointments have been arranged around testing. Students must be present for testing. Our students must begin to prepare for these assessments now by doing the following: being present for and engaged in learning, reviewing old notes, reworking old test and quiz problems, and doing all homework. In addition, we are encouraging all students to read at least 20-30 minutes per night and write short summaries about what they have read.
To be promoted to the next grade, all students will be required to pass 5 out of 6 subjects each semester (semester average of 70% of higher is required). Language Arts and Mathematics must be two of the four subjects passed each semester. In addition, students in grade eight are also required to achieve Grade-level or Above in the Reading and Vocabulary domain of the language Arts Georgia Milestones End of Grade (EOG) Assessment and achieve the performance level of Developing or higher on the Mathematics Georgia Milestones End of Grade (EOG) Assessment.
Student grades and progress can be monitored through the Parent Portal. We would like to encourage you to sign-up for the parent portal. Students can monitor their grades, access online resources, and teacher course pages through their “My Student” login.
Lilburn Middle School will be offering its Academic Assistance Program (AAP) for no more than two first semester classes that your child may have failed. If your child earns a 69 or lower on their report card in Language Arts, math, Science, or Social Studies, he/she will have an opportunity to enroll in our Academic Assistance Program. If your child successfully passes the Academic Achievement class, their failing grade for the semester will be replaced with a 70, however the initial failing grade will be reflected on his/her transcript. The cost per class is $75, one class per session. More detailed information about AAP will be provided in January.
To learn more about how to help your child improve their academic performance and how to prepare for the Georgia Milestones Assessments (GMAS), please visit the Georgia Department of Education website at the link below to access valuable resources about the new Georgia Milestone Assessments.
To help students practice for the Georgia Milestone Assessment, we ask that you have your child practice using USA Test Prep at www.usatestprep.com/Member-Login. Your child should have received a temporary login and password from their teacher. Your child will then need to create an account for a permanent login and password.
We have noticed that some students are being dropped-off by the front doors prior to 8:00AM. Students should be entering the building no earlier than 8:50 unless they have an appointment for tutoring or detention at 8:00AM with his or her teacher in the morning. Students may not be dropped-off earlier than 8:00AM. Our front parking is limited. You will be able to find additional visitor parking on the side and rear of the building. All parents and visitors must check in at the front office desk.
We appreciate all that you do to support our students achieve academic awesomeness! We wish you and yours a wonderful holiday season!
Happy Holidays!
