School News You Can Use

Hello Walden Families!

What a wonderful week we had at Walden School! Today, we celebrated World Smile Day! We spoke about how this day is all about spreading joy and kindness around the world and finding small ways to make someone smile. Students were letting me know throughout the day about the different ways they found reasons to smile. Some of the reasons that were shared were that one student loved the funny book that their classroom teacher read aloud. Another student shared that he finally made it across the monkey bars at recess. A third student shared that she solved a tricky math problem. What wonderful reasons to smile! Feel free to take some time at home to discuss things that make each family member smile. I'm sure there will be plenty!

Have a great weekend and we'll see you on Monday!

Student Lighthouse Team - 4th/5th Graders

Attention 4th and 5th Grade Students! Are you interested in joining the Student Lighthouse Team this school year? The Student Lighthouse Team is comprised of 4th and 5th grade students who work together to help make Walden the best it can be! Using the 7 Habits of Happy Kids, the Student Lighthouse Team will plan events and discuss Walden’s big rocks to make this the best school year yet! Our first meeting will be this coming Tuesday, October 5th at 8:10 am in Mrs. Arlia's room (room 20). Please email Mrs. Arlia (darlia@dps109.org) or Ms. Rosenbaum (arosenbaum@dps109.org) with any questions!

Personal Student Devices

Over the past few weeks we have observed a number of students using smart watches (and sometimes cell phones) during the school day. In some cases parents are sending messages to students during the day. We need your help with this situation as cell phone and/or smart watch use during the school day is disruptive to the learning environment. Students are expected to keep cell phones off and in their lockers and watches should not make noise or beep during the day. Thank you!

Student Health Requirements 21-22 (2nd Posting)

We recognize and are mindful of the fact that many families may have had difficulty getting children in for physical, dental, and eye exams as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has presented many challenges to routine medical care; however, at this time, all child-health related requirements for school attendance, remain in effect for children in public, private, or parochial schools, as per 105 ILCS 5/27-8.1.

Health-related examinations and immunization requirements are due no later than October 15. Please click here to be directed to our website for detailed information regarding specific requirements by grade level.

You will soon be receiving communication from our building nurse if your child is missing any of the required documentation. Students not in compliance with the health examination and immunization requirements will be excluded from school beginning Friday, October 15, 2021. Please reach out with any questions regarding these requirements as we want to partner with you to ensure compliance with these requirements. Thank you.
