REVIEW OF ENRIQUE’S JOURNEY : The Story of a Boy Determined to Reunite with His Mother by Sonia Nazario
This book is about a boy named Enrique. His mum left to go to America in search of a better future for herself and her children when Enrique was five years old. Enrique’s mom stayed in the USA for over 9 years without seeing her children. While in the United States, she gave birth to another child, a girl named Diana. Enrique started misbehaving when he stayed back in Honduras. Enrique started having problems , so he decided he had to go and see his mom in the United States . After his eighth attempt to cross the Mexican-United States border, he successfully made it to the U.S. and was able to see his mom and his baby sister. He realized that the love he once had for his mom was no longer there. He was angry that his mom had left him. While in the U.S., Enrique started misbehaving, and he and his mom would argue a lot. After a while, he moved out of his mom’s house and went to live on his own. Enrique later went back to live with his mom. His girlfriend also came to the US, leaving their daughter behind in Honduras. After a while, he brought his daughter to the US. Later, Enrique was arrested and sent to jail . After a long while, Enrique was released from prison, and he, his wife, and his children were allowed to stay in the USA.
At first, I didn't like the book because I prefer reading realistic fiction. Eventually, I got sucked into the book, and I liked reading about the difficult journey Enrique faced. It was good that everything worked out eventually for Enrique and his family.
Interviews
This month we interviewed two very interesting teachers to see how they see things as teachers at North View.
MS. JONES INTERVIEW
Oluwagbemiga: What is your favorite activity or sport? Why?
Mrs. Jones: Cooking, because you can take someone’s recipe and change it and make it your own. It is the quickest way to people’s heart.
Oluwagbemiga: What is your favorite lunch at North View? Why?
Ms Jones: I don’t eat at North View, but, if I have to pick, I will say salad.
O: Who/what is your favorite musician/band? Why?
MJ: My favorite musician is Frankie Beverly of Mave.
O: When you were in middle school, what was your favorite subject? Why?
MJ: Reading because you can go into a book and build a world in your mind 'cause reading helps your writing, which helps you go to college.
O: Where are you from originally?
MJ: I am originally from Illinois.
O:When did you realize you wanted to be a teacher?
MJ: It was not until I was 42 that I realized that I could teach, so I went back to school.
O: How are you able to be patient with students even when they are getting on your nerves?
MJ: I just feel like you don’t know what they are going through, and I feel you as an adult should be mature.
O:Where do you see yourself in the next 5 - 10 years?
MJ: I see myself in a university teaching FACS.
O: What’s you most embarrassing moment when teaching?
MJ: Giving students the wrong packet for a video.
