Reaching New Heights

November 2022

Congaree Families,

We welcome you into November as we prepare for another packed month of activities. We will soon have our annual Veterans' Day program at the school and we are looking to make this another community event. We are partnering with Congaree Cares and Airport High School to produce a really solid program. We ask that you join us Friday, November 11, 2022 in our cafeteria at 8:30 am.

Our AVID Strategy of the Month is a Frayer Model. This can be used for organizing thoughts, building background knowledge, and helping with understanding vocabulary before and after reading texts. Please ask your student about their work using a Frayer Model. You will see examples of Frayer Models throughout our school.

Our 4th graders went to Camp Leopold near Rimini, South Carolina and had a great time learning in nature. We were not in the school building, but were in outdoor classrooms. It was by far one of the best field trips that they will have while they are in elementary school. We are thankful for this opportunity and look forward to our fifth graders going in February.

On Tuesday, November 8, 2022 there will be NO SCHOOL for students and staff. This is an election day and we are making sure that our students know the purpose. We believe that it is important to know that they will one day have the power to exercise their right to vote on leaders that will represent them and pass laws that will improve their lives as citizens in the United States. We encourage you to take the opportunity to get out and vote.

Finally, November is a month that we all should give thanks. The past few years have been challenging and we are still recovering from damage from Covid. We have endured and are still here and are beginning to gain momentum in bringing back the full operation of our school and community. Please know that we are thankful for you and what you do for our students at Congaree. We care for you as a member of the Congaree family. Let's continue Reaching New Heights together!

Respectfully,

Mr. Dickey
