Eagle Update: August 27, 2020

Barton Hills Elementary

Hello BHE Families:

I'm sending out this newsletter earlier than usual so we can let you know of all the happenings coming up over the next week.

Teachers and staff have been busy this week preparing for the start of remote learning on September 8th. In preparation for that start, we are offering grade level introductions and parent information sessions next week. Each meeting is grade level specific and you will have the opportunity to meet all of the grade level teachers and hear about their plans for the first four weeks. All the meetings will be virtual and have the same zoom link and passcode. If you are unable to attend, we will record the meeting and make it available on the BLEND Community Course page. Please see below for specific Zoom link information as well as dates and times for each grade level.

I also want to make sure you have the information needed about the other events taking place next week. The Upcoming Dates section has more detailed flyers for our the Drive By Hi and one last opportunity to claim any student belongings left in the classrooms at the end of the 19-20 school year. :) Speaking of the Drive By Hi and Supplies, I want to clarify any misunderstanding around the supplies students are picking up vs the supplies listed on our on our website. The supplies listed on the website are recommended school supplies for each child to use at home during remote learning and can be transferred to school if/when your child begins attending in person learning. What is most important to start with are the supplies for writing (pencils, markers, notebooks, composition books). Teachers will share more about basic supplies during the parent information meetings. The supply bags for some grade levels you'll pick up on September 3rd are comprised of instructional materials the teachers have put together for the students to use during remote learning.

Finally, I know anticipation is building to hear from your child's classroom teacher(s). We hear you - the teachers are looking forward to getting to know their students too! Everyone can expect an email welcome on the afternoon of September 2nd from the grade level teachers.

The Barton Hills staff and I are ready to welcome back our students with a strong start to the year!

As always, if you have questions or need assistance getting technology, please don't hesitate to reach out. Please do continue to check for communication from AISD (https://www.austinisd.org/openforlearning) and from the school as we get closer to the beginning of the year. Stay safe and healthy, everyone!
