What is PACT?
Program for Academically and Cognitively Talented known as PACT serves our gifted learners in grades 3 through 5. PACT has two parts: Accelerated Math and Integrated Reading. These classes are taught by experts in gifted pedagogy, our gifted specialists. Having these highly trained teachers at each of our elementary schools allows us to provide the differentiated instruction our gifted learners need to reach their full potential. Additionally the gifted specialist is the onsite support for the cluster teachers providing guidance and resources to these teachers as they work in the cluster classroom to meet the needs of the multiple learning levels.
Problem Solving
Math is much more than computation. It is the ability to problem solve! The game Blokus is a great way to build these skills.
Math is interactive and collaborative.
Collaborative energy supports learning.
Math is real world.
One part math, one part creativity, and one part STEAM = Dream backyards using our geometry skills.
Accelerated Math
Mathematics is has a language and skill set all its own. The Accelerated Math class utilizes the 8 Mathematical Practices to guide learners in embracing all of the concepts that are part of the mathematical journey. This class is available to 3rd -8th grade gifted learners needing additional challenge in mathematics. The students in grades 3 and 4 accelerated through the grade level standards and experience specifically selected above grade level standards through application projects. This allows these learners to put into practice the skills learned in a real and meaningful manner. These application opportunities support the retention of skills and concepts. Students in 5th grade accelerated through the grade level standards and then take specific 6th grade standards to a mastery level, These students also have the opportunity for application projects. In 6th and 7th grade students gain mastery of on-level and above level standards getting them ready to move into Algebra as an 8th grader.

Integrated Reading
Gifted students in 4th and 5th grade experience reading in an integrated manner as they interact with multiple formats and genres. Structures from the College of William and Mary's ELA curriculum, Junior Great Books, and specifically chosen novel units are utilized to address the Arizona State ELA standards in a differentiated manner. Students engage with advanced vocabulary and Latin stems along with learning the structures of language with Michael Clay Thompson's Caesar's English and 4 Level Grammar. Discourse and Socratic discussion are foundational components of the class.
