Hamilton Avenue School Update
Diane Chiappetta Fox, Interim Principal
November 18, 2022
Dear Hamilton Avenue Parents and Students,
Recently the Second Grade studied the science of SOUND. Students learned how sound interacts with objects and how we can use sound to communicate. The culminating piece involved students using tools and materials to design and build a device that uses sound to solve the problem of communicating over a distance. Today, 2nd grade invited families to come and view the instruments!
This week all students participated in Bus Safety. The students were very attentive and had many questions. They were surprised to learn that every school bus has a camera. Lately, I have been impressed with reports that HAS students have been remembering the norms while riding the bus. This morning, students attended a Care for Self and Others Assembly in the cafetorium. It was a beautiful and moving meeting. Student council led the assembly and members spoke about and shared examples of this norm and what it looks like in the school. Students read examples of how their peers "care for self and others" throughout the day. After, Mrs. Byrne spoke to students about the Mathathon that we will be participating in this month. See below for more information. Lastly, Ms. McCarthy announced that WEDNESDAY is Pajama Day and rolled out Husky Bucks, our new incentive token system. See below for some photos.
On the topic of Care for Self and Others, this time of year reminds us that some of our families may be experiencing food insecurity. We are fortunate in the Town of Greenwich to have a wealth of services in this area. If you or someone you know is experiencing this, please reach out to the Hamilton Avenue School Social Worker, Emily Khoshaboo at email@example.com and she will help you get connected to services.
No Smore next week. I wish you all a restful and happy Thanksgiving and hope that you spend time with family and friends. We all have so much to be grateful for this year. I know I will rest and reflect with family and friends this week about how fortunate I am to be part of such a special school.
We're raising money for St. Jude! - Mathathon
Our school is hosting a St. Jude Math-A-Thon. We're solving math problems and asking for pledges so we can help kids with cancer and other life-threatening diseases. CHANGE LETTERS (JACKIE) Click here for more details (Click here for Spanish) . Students will learn about the Mathathon at our #careforselfandtothers assembly on 11/18/22.
