LASER TAG - THANK YOU!!

Our tireless PTO Fundraising Chairs, Carol Anne Bauman and Shana Hackworth, put together an action packed Laser Tag event. Little did our kiddos know that as they were having a blast, important funds were being raised to support Orion. Thank you Carol and Shana for a terrific afternoon and evening filled will fun and fundraising!

COSTUME PARADE - TIME CHANGE (8:30-9:00AM)

Unfortunately, we have had to change the time of our Orion Costume Parade. We will hold our parade on Wednesday, October 31st from 8:30-9:00AM. Please send your kiddos to school wearing their costumes. The students will change after the parade.

I apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

FIRST EARTHQUAKE DRILL - 10/18

Each year Orion and all the schools in our district practice fire drills, earthquake drills and shelter in place/lockdown drills. In all these drills, we follow the protocols and procedures established by our County Office of Education. The procedures are collectively called The Big Five.

Every year, before we practice drills with our students, all of our staff receive training on the protocols.

We will hold our Earthquake drill of the year on Thursday, October 18th. In the days proceeding the actual drill, our teachers will teach our kiddos what to do during the drill. Our kinders get a lot "practice" with Teacher Linda and Teacher NIna before the big day!

This year we will hold 5 fire drills, 2 earthquake drills and 2 lockdown drills. I will let you know a few weeks in advance of each drill.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

SUPERINTENDENT'S ADVISORY COUNCIL - WAYS TO STAY INFORMED

The Superintendent's Advisory Council is made of parents and staff from each of our district's 16 schools. Our parent representatives are Carol Anne Bauman and Shana Hackworth. Our staff representative is Teacher Stephanie.

This year, the charge of the council is to study the current challenges facing our district. Over the past five years, our district has seen a significant decrease in enrollment which is negatively impacting our district's budget. The council will meet once a week during the fall to study the district's challenges and to generate possible solutions.

The meetings are closed to the wider community. However, the following are ways for ALL parents to stay informed, share thoughts and to ask questions:

**Email our representatives: SAC@orionschool.org

**Attend Board Study Session of PROPOSED Solutions: Tuesday, October 16th (7:00PM)

**Attend a Community Input Meeting: Monday, October 22nd or Thursday, October 25th

**Attend Orion's Next Coffee with the Principal: Friday, October 19th (8:15-9:15AM)
