Mountain View Weekly Blast

March 23, 2023

Welcome Back!

Dear MVE Community,

Welcome back! We are looking forward to spending the months ahead watching our students continue to grow and thrive at MVE! Thank you to everyone who has supported our fund raising efforts throughout the school year. Last night's PTO meeting we were able to celebrate the many ways that this partnership between schools and community has impacted the learning at Mountain View and Northeast! We are so grateful to all of you!

Aloha Mountain View!

This week we had a school-wide assembly to educate our community in the art of Polynesian music, language and dance. Our very own Mia Lynch performed with the group. The Halau Kalama Polynesian Dancers spent the morning with us! These talented dancers shared their talents as they danced to entertain as well as enlighten us in the “ALOHA SPIRIT”. Be sure to ask your child about the performance, and what they learned and enjoyed! If you want to learn more about this group, please check out the link here!

Art Celebrates the Islands of Tahiti!

This week we celebrated the Polynesian culture through art! In first grade we worked on learning about Tahitian headpieces, or Tahitian flower crowns, are common throughout The Islands of Tahiti. While they are given to visitors as a sign of welcome, the Tahitian headpiece, flower crown or HEI UPO’O as they are known in Tahitian, are not just for visitors. They are worn by locals in order to celebrate a special occasion or simply, celebrate the beauty of everyday life in The Islands of Tahiti. Seeing smiling Tahitians adorned in whimsical flower crowns is the embodiment of the common phrase: La Vie Heureuse or “The Happy Life.”
