The Engineering Process
Computer Class, Dr. Wise
Computer Science Standards:
Use age appropriate digital tools and resources to learn science and engineering practices. Foundational Concepts: Ask questions to conduct investigations, solve problems, and test solutions. Use basic features of digital tools to communicate key ideas and details in a way that informs and/or persuades.
Science Standard:
Explain how engineers have improved existing technologies to increase their benefits, to decrease known risks, and to meet societal demands (artificial limbs, seatbelts, cell phones).
Essential Question:
How can the engineering process guide us in solving real world problems?
Student Directions:
2. Explore and Research: Visit the links to find out how the engineering process helps us solve real world problems.
3. Digital Discussion: Create a post on the padlet link and explain how the engineering process is helping us solve real world problems. Use text evidence to support your answer. Engage in a digital discussion by commenting on two other students' posts.

Example Padlet Post:
The passage says, "Engineering students work on a magnetic shield system to protect astronauts on long interplanetary journeys."
The illustration shows that engineers are designing 3D printed prosthetics to help people without limbs.
Questions Time: We will answer these questions together.
Questions:
How did the characters on BrainPOP use the engineering design process to create a float?
Why is research an important step in the engineering design process?
Explain San Francisco's problem. How did they solve their problem?
