Class of 2022 Weekly Review
Week of September 14, 2020
Welcome Back
I hope that Week 1 of Virtual Learning was overall a positive experience for you. We continue to learn and grow together in this virtual classroom. I encourage you to reach out to your teachers and share with them your successes and your challenges. We can only fix things when we know about them. Please remember that your teachers are learning every day too. They are working incredibly hard to make this a positive experience for you. I kindly ask that you remember that when giving them feedback. Help them help you with kindness and grace.
Mr. Monk, Mrs. Davis, and I will continue to be here to help in any way that we can. Please reach out if you need anything! I wish you all the best for a successful Week 2 of Virtual Learning!
Please stay healthy and well!
Mrs. Opdyke
Standardized Testing Timeline
October 17th – PSAT/NMSQT (Results in December)
December through June – Students should take the SAT and or the ACT at least one time along with SAT Subject tests if necessary. SAT and Act are not required by all colleges and universities; however, it may be wise to take one or both at least once in the event your son or daughter decides to apply to a school that does require scores. SAT Subject tests are often required by more selective colleges and universities.
Register at:
SAT - collegegboard.org
ACT - act.org
AP course exams: The exams take place during the first two weeks of May. Students work with their current AP teacher in joining the AP class through their Collegeboard account. Payment for the exams will begin at some point in January.
PSAT Information
The PSAT is the practice test for the SAT. It is offered one time every fall and is the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship. We encourage all college bound juniors to take the PSAT. The PSAT will be held at South on Saturday, October 17th. The PSAT has two sections- Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing. To learn more about the PSAT/NMSQT, please visit the CollegeBoard website.
To safely honor our District’s Health and Safety Plan and spacing requirements, the PSAT/NMSQT will be offered to JUNIORS ONLY this fall. The PSAT 10 will be offered to SOPHOMORES ONLY in the spring.
PSAT REGISTRATION begins at 8:00AM on Friday, September 11th through 11:59PM on Monday, October 5th through My Payments Plus (only).
The cost for the PSAT is $30 and registration must be completed through MyPaymentsPlus. Price adjustments are automatically accounted for in MPP for students who qualify for free or reduced price meals. Practice booklets will automatically be emailed to students once payment is received. Should you wish to pick up a printed copy, please contact the Junior House Office.
The PSAT is 2 hours and 45 minutes. The test begins at 8am but we ask all participating students to be here by 7:40 AM so the test can begin promptly at 8:00 AM.
Students should be prepared for the test by bringing a calculator and several #2 pencils. Extra batteries are also a good idea. Due to test security, cell phones should not be brought into the building on test day. The test should be completed by 11:30 AM but times may vary from room to room. Room assignments will be posted at South a few days before the test.
