Counselor's Corner

Character Education November Theme

Our theme for the month of November is SERVICE. Service means lending a hand to help someone else. What are some ways that you can help someone in need? November is a great month to find ways to help others less fortunate than you.

Please see attached letter and application for information regarding Credit by Exam.

Our Watch Dog program consists of Dads or Father Figures of Great Students who volunteer one day at their child’s school. They will perform a variety of tasks including assisting with the car line in the morning, monitoring the cafeteria and helping in their child’s classroom. Please contact sara.runge@cfisd.net if you are interested in participating and to schedule your date. We look forward to your participation and hope to see many dads at Farney Elementary!

Name That Book is a reading incentive for all 3rd, 4th and 5th graders at Farney. The list of 100 titles includes Fiction, Nonfiction, poetry, biography and books to hopefully interest a wide variety of readers. Everyone is encouraged to read books from the Name That Book list. After the Thanksgiving holiday teams will be formed of 6 readers to a team. They will work together to read as many of the 100 titles, as a team, as they can before the Grade Level contests in January. That is when we will find ONE team from each grade. Then those winning 3rd, 4th and 5th grade teams will compete in the School Contest in February. Finally, our Farney Name That Book team will compete against the other 47 schools participating in the Regional and District Contests to be held March 8 at the Berry Center! It is a Fun reading adventure for all!

Don Tate, author and illustrator, will be here for all of our 2nd and 3rd graders on December 7. He has illustrated a variety of books. I know our middle readers will enjoy his presentation!

We are VERY THANKFUL for all of our volunteers! YOU make our library run smoothly on a daily basis. Our Watch Dog Dads have been great library helpers as well! Thank you!

Lunch Visitors

Parents and guardians are encouraged to visit during lunch. Any other visitors (grandparents, siblings, friends, etc.), must be accompanied by the parent or guardian or have a note giving them permission to eat with the child. In accordance to CFISD policy, school age children are not permitted to visit the campus at any time. Due to food and nutrition guidelines, you may bring lunch for your child only. For your convenience, there are several tables reserved for you to enjoy lunch with your child. Teachers will call the “Farney Five” at the end of lunch to signal when it is time for your child to say a quick goodbye and rejoin his/her class.

ConocoPhillips 2016 Math Teacher of the Month

Now through December 15, we are accepting nominations on the ConocoPhillips website for the 2016 Math Teacher of the Month program. Students, their parents or legal guardians, fellow teachers, and school administrators are all eligible to nominate a math teacher for recognition. Additional details about the program, including eligibility, selection process, selection criteria and awards can be found on the program’s dedicated webpage: www.conocophillips.com/MathTeacheroftheMonth

Birthday Celebrations

Student birthdays are acknowledged at school during the morning announcements and in the classroom. Students are not permitted to distribute invitations to personal parties at school. We also do not allow the delivery of gifts such as flowers, balloons, etc. Due to health regulations, you cannot bring cakes, cupcakes, favors, etc. If you'd like your child to celebrate with his/her class, treats may be purchased from the cafeteria with 5 days notice. Contact martha.santacruz@cfisd.net for details.

Reserved Parking

The reserved parking spaces at the front of the school are reserved for Farney staff members who frequently leave from and/or return to the building during the school day. Please do not park in these spaces before school, after school, or during the day. For your convenience, we ask all other staff members to use the back parking lot so that there are dozens of visitor spots available to you in the front of the school. We appreciate your cooperation.
