FROM THE PRINCIPAL...TONY WHITE

This has been an absolutely awesome first week of school! Nothing awesome ever happened on its own. It takes a community banding together with a common goal and vision in mind. If you've heard me say it once, you've heard me say it a thousand times: Norton Creek is a school where passion and compassion meet: Passion for learning, teaching, and our school community and Compassion for our students, families, colleagues, and selves.

This entire first week, I have seen passion and compassion on full display. I have seen students make sure that no one eats or plays alone at lunch and recess. I have seen teachers and staff give extra TLC to our students who have a hard time in the beginning of the year leaving their family at the main entry as they walk into school. Our PTO has been front and center showing their passion and compassion for our school through their kindness shown to our staff and the fun memories they have already begun creating for our students. Families have been so kind to all of our Eagles outside at arrival and dismissal, and it is so heartwarming seeing families reconnect outside for conversations and laughs.

Last Friday, our students learned about the three most important things they can be at Norton Creek and anywhere in the world: Kind, Respectful, and Problem-Solvers. This is an easy-to-remember way that we put Passion and Compassion into action everywhere at school - from the classroom to the lunchroom and everywhere in between. Throughout the year, we will revisit these ideas with our Eagles, and I encourage you to at home as well.

It has been an awesome first week, and it will be an incredible 2019-2020 school year. Have a wonderful weekend, Norton Creek, and we'll see you at Popsicles in the Park tomorrow evening from 6:00 - 8:00 behind the school! It's such a fun way to kick off the year as one big Norton Creek family!

5TH GRADE CHOIR! Sign up by September 20th

Dear Families of 5th Grade Students!

We are thrilled to announce that this year, D303 will continue to provide a 5th Grade Choir Program for ALL Elementary Schools! This program will run in a similar fashion as the current Elementary Band and Orchestra Programs with a weekly before-school rehearsal, but will NOT conflict with current band and orchestra rehearsals.

This program will run from September through May, with our first meeting being Friday, September 20th!

Choir will be meeting on Friday mornings at NORTON CREEK from

7:25 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Parents/guardians are responsible for dropping their student at Norton Creek by 7:25 a.m. D303 Transportation will provide buses to transport students back to their home schools after rehearsal!

Performances are TBD as the year unfolds.

The goal of this program is to offer a formal choral music opportunity to our young students and to enrich their musical experience while preparing for middle and high school vocal music possibilities. We will work on ensemble practice, team building, vocal technique, vocal health, unison and part-singing, all through a rich variety of vocal music repertoire. I look forward to this adventure and hope your student will be a part of this wonderful experience!

If you have further questions, please do not hesitate emailing me!
