SISD Special Education Department Host Sensory-Friendly Trick-or-Treat Event for students
While giving students an exciting experience, the Sherman ISD Sensory Friendly Trick-or-Treat event provides families with the opportunity to take their children trick-or-treating in an environment that is sensitive to their sensory and behavioral needs.
On Tuesday evening, the SISD Special Education Department hosted its second annual trick-or-treat event. Children in attendance were dressed in Halloween costumes and enjoyed fun games and activities throughout the night. Students had the opportunity to play sensory-friendly games, participate in arts and crafts, and fill their bags with candy as they walked around the SISD administration building in a sensory-friendly environment.
“This is our second year to host this event, and it allows our families and students to enjoy trick-or-treating in a safe, nonjudgmental environment,” Sherman ISD Behavioral Specialist Tamara Dutton explained. “Our families can connect, and it’s a chance to celebrate the small and large successes we have seen in our students. Most importantly, we want our families to know that we are committed to partnering with them.”
The SPED Department plans to continue the Trick-or-Treat event next year.
