School Supplies Made Easy!

It's time to start thinking about next year's Back to School Shopping! Look for order forms for the 2019-2020 School Supply Kits that came home in your child's backpack. Make it easy on yourself while supporting Hawthorne's PTA by letting us do the work for you! Carlson's (only the framing and art supply portion of their business is closing so they can expand their school supply area) will assemble the kits, deliver them to the PTA, and they'll be ready at your child's classroom when school starts in August. For a hassle-free first day of school next August, return payment and the completed form with your child's information for the upcoming school year to the office in an envelope marked School Supply Kits. Orders and payment must be received by (next week) Friday, May 10th. Feel free to email Melissa Johnson at melissa123j@yahoo.com with questions. If you decide to purchase school supplies on your own, please have your child bring the supplies on the first day of school next August.

Yearbook Update

It's time to order your yearbooks if you haven't done so already! They cost $11.99 each. Order online: www.treering.com/validate and use School Code: 101515708176509

Also, please send your pictures you'd like included in the yearbook directly to brookes@alumni.nd.edu - you can email individual images, use google drive, dropbox, facebook messenger, whatever works for you! Please make sure they are clearly labeled with the activity and grade of students. Thank you!

WWPTA Scholarships Awarded

At the annual Scholarship Breakfast last week, the WWPTA Council granted $16,000 in college scholarships to graduating seniors from both high schools. We have some incredibly smart and talented students in Wheaton! Congrats to Hawthorne alum Eric Monson who was one of the students selected for scholarship. Our PTA donates money each year to this fund along with all of the other elementary and middle schools in our district. Thank you to Jenny Wiley for serving as our Scholarship Chair.

Congratulations, Ms. Richard!

Ms. Richard, EL teacher at Hawthorne, received a Student Excellence Foundation grant to purchase new materials to help Kindergarten and first grade students practice oral language, speaking, and listening skills, with a focus on phonics and phonemic awareness. These new materials will build students' skills through music and motion, in a fun and motivational way! Nice job, Ms. Richard! Pictured here is Ms. Richard with Mrs. Gimre's Kindergarten classroom.

Rent the Hawthorne Sign - Your Kids Will Love It!

Celebrate your child’s birthday in a big way! Wish him/her a Happy Birthday on the Hawthorne School sign. Rent it for their big day and let them see their name in big letters and lights! Cost is $20 for your first child and $10 for subsequent children. Another great way to support the PTA! You can find the form on the PTA website, in the main office or by clicking here.

The Last Day of School will be June 11th

The last student attendance day for the 2018-19 School Year is Tuesday, June 11, 2019. Due to this year’s four weather-related school closures, the Board of Education had to extend the school year. Board approved calendars contain five emergency days at the end of the school year in the event of school closure. Per the Illinois School Code, Districts are required to make-up up to five school closure days and therefore all four closure days will be made up.
