A police officer helps the community by maintaing law and order, protecting members of the public and their property, and preventing crimes. A police officer may need to know another language because he or she may need to make an arrest or communicate with someone who can't speak their language.

Education: You need a high school degree and dedicated training in a police academy. An advanced degree in criminal justice helps secure a job.

Dangers and Advantages

The dangers are you have to risk your life, but advantages are you get the respect of people you help. And doughnuts. Lots of doughnuts.

The base salary for a police officer is around $35,000 a year.
