Canned Food Drive Success!

Congratulations to Mr. York's advisory class for bringing in the most canned food items this week! It was a close race and KMS students donated a total number of 1,315 canned goods to donate to the Kuna Food Bank.

Thank you to everyone who donated food to help out our community! We are so grateful for the effort from each Advisory class!

Elephant Toothpaste

This week we practiced recognizing a chemical reaction by identifying chemical properties. We also learned about catalysts, which are used to speed up a chemical reaction. To wrap up our investigations on chemical reactions and catalysts, we made elephant toothpaste! This is a fun activity that can be done at home! All you need is yeast, warm water, dish soap and hydrogen peroxide. Try it this weekend at home!

Buttery Books

On the week of November 7-11th, our library hosted "Buttery Books" for our students. Mrs. Morgan and her TAs sold popcorn bags to students for one dollar each to support getting new books for our library! The total raised for the week was $396.25. Mrs. Morgan has been the librarian at KMS for 17 years. "I never get tired of hearing, 'Thanks, that was the best book recommendation' or 'Thanks for helping me find a book I loved.'" Morgan is hoping to host more "Buttery Books" throughout the school year. Buttery Book sales allows the library to purchase more books to keep middle schoolers happy and reading. "Our library would not survive without the (book) fairs we hold," says Morgan as she thanks all the staff and students who helped with this fundraiser. "I too love reading and have read many of the books we have purchased for our students" she says. If you have a book recommendation, leave a note on Morgan's desk, email her or let her know in person. The KMS library always takes book donations as well, so check your shelves at home! Let's keep our library stocked full of good books! Oh, and popcorn!

Scratch Art Statistics

Sixth grade students in Mrs. Kaufman's math class are learning about statistics.

The graphs are from surveys the students created in WIN Time last week. The scratch art was a fun project to wrap up their ratio unit. Students created a ratio table from a drawing they did. They wrote the ratio three ways, and some added coordinate planes, tape diagrams and double number lines. Way to go, sixth graders!
