Importat IRIP and M-STEP Information From Mrs. Englehart. Please READ
Reading Goals:
This time of the year we find ourselves updating our student's reading goals. This article on fluency may help you have a better understanding of this important part of reading. I highly encourage you to take a few minutes to read the article, "Making Kids Read Fast is NOT the Goal of Fluency Instruction." This quote stood out to me, "For fluency instruction to truly work we need to see the goal of fluency as expressive oral (and silent) reading that reflects the meaning of the text. When we make expressive and meaningful reading of texts the true goal of fluency (and avoid putting emphasis on fast reading) we will see significant improvements in reading comprehension (as well as reading speed)."
If you need support when creating any reading goal(s) for your student(s) let me know.
Third Grade Teachers:
Please read the email that was sent to you regarding IRIPs over the weekend. Thank you in advance for filling in the IRIP 2020 Decision Making Chart.
MSTEP
Here are the testing window dates for 2020.
5th Grade: April 13th-May 8th (Paper-Pencil for Science is 4/22 & Social Studies 4/23)
4th Grade: April 27th-May 22nd
3rd Grade: April 27th-May 22nd
A draft of the schedule will be shared with you as soon as it is completed. It is highly encouraged to embed MSTEP practice within your curriculum - do NOT stop teaching and "prep" for MSTEP. Last year third grade teachers met to create this document- Embedded MSTEP Practice- maybe your grade level could meet to discuss and add to it? If you want any support in this area I am happy to help brainstorm with you.
