Gas Chambers
Emily Sabean
Background & Example
Gas chambers were the location for mass amounts of minorities to be exterminated. Within the locked and sealed chamber with thousands of bodies, a toxic gas chemical is released, suffocating all those inside and killing them. Specifically, in Operation Reinhard, the SS and police killed these "prisoners" deported to the Operation Reinhard killing centers by locking them in the gas chamber into which truck engines pumped deadly carbon monoxide, which took care of the vast majority of the minorities. Very few of the minority prisoners were killed by shootings, meaning that the gas chambers was the source of mass killings.

It is said that these particular bodies in the north end of the Baracke-X building were stacked up like woodstock. This is yet another example of the many ways Jews were dehuminizated as the minority. This building was also for used as a morgue room on the day the camp was liberated.

This image is showing the entrance to the gas chamber in Auschwitz. Through the first door, is a second door which opens to the over room. Both the oven and gas chambers were responsible for termination of the minority population.

This cartoon is simply a basic example of the Jews being forced into the chamber. To the left of the picture one of the SS officers is using some type of weapon forcing the Jews inside and making sure none of them turn the other way.
