Washington D.C. Safety Contract 2022
In order to attend the 8th grade trip to Washington DC I/we understand that I/my child need(s) to exhibit safe behaviors throughout the school year. If I/my child engage(s) in unsafe behaviors I understand that my/my child’s privilege to attend the trip may be in jeopardy. A team of staff members and my parents will review behavior, and determine whether or not I/my child am/is safe to attend the Washington DC trip. Failure to consistently comply with school rules as outlined in the Student Handbook will be cause for review. Some examples of unsafe behaviors include, but are not limited to:
Fighting or physical assault
Threats, serious and sustained harassment, or hazing
Possession of weapons or illegal items/substances
Theft or significant property damage
Intentionally getting lost or separated from the group
Failure to be safe on previous field trips
Failure to consistently follow simple directions
By signing this contract we understand that my behavior/my child’s behavior this school year may dictate whether or not I will be able to attend the Washington DC trip.

WMS 8th Grade Washington D.C. Trip General Info
The WMS 8th Grade D.C. Trip is a week-long annual trip that the students of WMS have been participating in for over 50 years! The trip is educational, both academically and socially, and lots of fun! Please see below for general info about the trip. If you would like to register your child for this trip please follow the instructions on the other side of this sheet.
This year the trip will begin on Monday, June 6th and end on Friday, June 10th
Students and the teachers that chaperone the trip travel by coach bus to and from Washington D.C. Once in D.C. the bus is also our primary mode of transportation.
Students will choose their own groups of four. This will be their group for the week. They will stay together in a room at the Quality Inn motel in Verona, VA.
Chaperones will have 2 to 3 groups of students that they are in charge of.
Once in D.C. students will visit national landmarks, museums, and other important locations in the city.
Breakfast and dinner will be provided as part of the cost of the trip, but students will need to bring money to buy lunches. More information on that will come closer to the date of the trip.
To best keep students safe from Covid-19 the coordinators of the trip, along with Principal Martin, will be in regular communication with the superintendent, student services department, and the Watertown Health Department leading up to the trip.
Additionally, please be aware that this trip may be cancelled at any time due to the ever changing nature of the Covid-19 pandemic. If this should happen, you will receive a full refund for the trip.
