Summer School Success Update
Signup Continues and Payments Being Accepted
Thank you for a successful round of summer school registration! We are grateful and pleased to welcome your children to the District 30 Summer School program. Registration is still open, and we will continue to enroll more students in the coming weeks.
If your child is currently waitlisted for a course, we will do what we can to get as many students as possible into classes of their choice.
The payment option in RevTrack is now open for any families to settle any outstanding balance. Log into your RevTrack account (the same one you used for summer school registration), and click on “parent portal.” From there, select the “Shopping Cart” icon for each class, click “checkout” and add your payment information. This guide offers detailed instructions on how to complete that process.
Thank you!

President's Award Criteria Change
Each year, Maple School proudly recognizes many of our outstanding 8th-grade students with the President’s Award for Educational Excellence. In recent years, this award has been presented to any 8th-grade student who has demonstrated consistent and sustained academic achievement during their Maple careers by achieving a 3.75 cumulative grade point average (GPA) through the second semester of their 8th-grade year, along with a teacher recommendation. Changes to this criteria are outlined below. These will not impact current 8th-graders receiving the award this spring.
Historically, the criteria for this award required an 85% proficiency score on the PSAT assessment – a nationally normed test – administered in the fall of the 8th-grade year. Moving forward, the Department of Education is allowing state standardized tests to qualify a student for the award. Therefore, we will begin utilizing the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) as a metric to qualify for this recognition beginning in 2023-24.
The IAR test will be administered this April. In order to qualify for the award in their graduating year:
7th-graders must achieve an average score of 750 on the Math and Reading assessments in addition to a cumulative 3.75 GPA.
6th-grade students must score an average of 750 on the 6th- and 7th-grade Math and Reading IAR assessments in addition to a cumulative 3.75 GPA.
We look forward to celebrating our outstanding students this spring and are eager to finish this year strong. Please reach out if you have any questions. Thank you for your continued partnership!

Memorial for District 30 Bus Driver
Our neighbors in District 28 are are organizing a Path of Kindness event to highlight the infinite love and kindness Mary Porcaro provided to the Northbrook community. Mary was a District 28 teacher for over a decade and served as a beloved bus driver to District 30 students in recent years:
Community members will be able to access the path from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 19 at Greenbriar School, 2195 Cherry Lane. The path will begin at the entrance to the school on Cherry Lane.
The path will take approximately 15 minutes to experience; there will also be some time for some quiet reflection before or after. The path will have opportunities to spread kindness honoring the spirit of giving Mary demonstrated. Please do not bring tokens of love (e.g, candles, pictures, flowers, posters, etc.) to this event.
Organizers also highly encourage those who are within walking distance of Greenbriar to please do so as parking is limited. The event will take place regardless of the weather, so please dress appropriately.

Illinois 5Essentials Survey Runs Through March 31
Students and teachers across Illinois have an opportunity to participate in the 11th annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey through March 31. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school.
On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:
Effective Leaders
Collaborative Teachers
Involved Families
Supportive Environments
Ambitious Instruction
Your participation in the parent portion of the survey will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey for students and teachers runs through March 31. The Parent Survey Supplement will be conducted during that same timeframe. To take the survey, click here or the button below and select the appropriate survey to begin.
For more information about the Illinois 5Essentials Survey, or to view previous years’ Reports, please click here. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact UChicago Impact Client Services at 1-866-440-1874 or impact-surveys@uchicago.edu.
Sincerely,
Mr. Sam Kurtz & Ms. Betty Holzkopf
