This Week's Testing Schedule

This week we have several testing dates for ACT and AP courses. Please check the schedule and be sure to bring a #2 pencil and photo id.

Fine Arts Night

Join us for Fine Arts Night, this Thursday, May 5th at 6:00 PM. Admission is free! Please come to see the student artwork and hear the jazz band, choir, and drama students perform!

Bowling Interest Meeting

There will be a meeting for anyone interested in being on the Bowling Team next year in Coach Williams' room on Tuesday, May 10th after school.

Yearbook Day

Yearbook day is almost here! Make sure you order a yearbook so that you can attend! Yearbooks are $65.00 and limited quantities are available. Visit myschoolfees.com or see Mrs. Brady today! Yearbook day is next week, May 6th!


Yearbook Day Schedule


  • 4th Period - Students will be called to the football field.
  • Tech Students will be dropped off by the football field at 2:30 PM.
  • Co-Op, Blended Learning and Early Grads can return for yearbook day if they purchased a yearbook. They will report directly to the football field area.
  • Only currently enrolled students will be allowed yearbook day.
  • If it rains, yearbook signing will take place in the gym.

Attention all Gamers

The Hazel Green Gaming Club will be hosting an event for PC, console and desktop games on Friday, May 6th after school. You are encouraged to bring your console and appropriate games. The admission is $7.00. See Mr. Sims or Ms. Mayes if you have any questions.

HG Cross Country

Anyone interested in running on the high school cross country team needs to attend a mandatory player and parent meeting on May 9th at 4:15 PM. The meeting will be held in Coach Brock's room N115 at the high school. Physical night will immediately follow in which all players are expected to attend unless they have a current physical which extends through 12/1/2016. HG Sports

Callie Giles, Lara Tanner, Michaela Henderson, Sports-med Naeka Patterson were each honored at the Huntsville Hospital Sports Center Athlete of the Year Banquet at the Huntsville Museum of Art. They were honored for their many accomplishments both on and off the court. Callie and Michaela were members our volleyball team and Lara a member our basketball team. Naeka Patterson is the Sports-med at each of the games.


Best of luck to TyKeia Smith, Tatianna Wright, Trent Harbin, and Brock Layne at State Track Meet today in Gulf Shores!

Trojan Summer Bash and Dash

Think you have what it takes to be a Trojan then prove it! Join us for the Trojan Bash and Dash May 27th at 6:30 PM for the one-mile dash. Afterwards, we are watching Sandlot in the Park. We will start the event off the Trojan Baseball Field. The race is just $20.00. The first 200 racers will get a Dash shirt, every racer will get a glow necklace, and admission into our Trojan Summer Bash movie. The Trojan Summer Bash is $5.00 and has an inflatable obstacle course and slide, face painting, and free movie tickets sold at the gate! Don't miss this lifetime event!

2016 Legends Round Table Event

On Thursday, June 9, 4:00–5:00 PM, Terry Bradshaw will join Mel Blount and John Stallworth on stage at the Westin-Huntsville to discuss their careers, challenges they faced on and off the football field, the importance of education, and preparation for a career and life beyond sports. They might even tell a few football stories! Attendance is free to coaches and athletes from all sports, teachers, mentor, parents, and students who attend with groups! We realize that your school will be on summer break, but we hope you will bring your students to enjoy the event with us! Seating is limited, and tickets per group are limited to twenty-five. Please call Freeda McDowell at 256-536-8050 to secure your tickets.

Summer Classes at UNA

UNA has opportunities both on-campus and ONLINE for students to become Early College students or, as a new high school graduate, to get ahead. By taking a summer class at UNA they can lighten their fall 2016 course load and work to make that 4.0! Summer Sessions at UNA are short, concentrated sessions that allow students to get ahead, get adjusted, or get caught up. Because the timetable is compressed, credit hours can be earned in a month's time and the student is ready for the next challenge!

Scholarship to MSU

Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity at Mississippi State University is awarding a $1000 scholarship to any deserving man or woman who is planning to enroll at Mississippi State in the Fall. Being a member or becoming a member is not required to be eligible for the scholarship. Please note that a phone interview and/or a face to face interview may be required if you are selected as a finalist. The deadline to apply is July 1st.

Medication

Parents/Guardians, the end of the school year is May 24, 2016. No medication, with the exception of asthma inhalers, Epi-pens and diabetic supplies will be given to students to transport home. Parents/Guardians will need to come to the school to sign out these medications. All medications not retrieved by May 25th will be destroyed in accordance with Alabama School Health Service’s Administrative Medication Policy. Please plan now. If you have any question, please contact the school at 256-851- 3220, extension 11010.

Physical Night

Physical Night will be held Monday, May 9th starting at 5:15 PM. Cost is $10.00 per athlete. Please fill out physical packets ahead of time. Packets can be picked up from each head coach or downloaded on the HGHS athletic homepage. All pages need to be printed and signed. There will be notaries on site during physical night to help complete packets.

Revision to Pre-Approved Absence Policy- Students requesting pre-approved, excused absences will need to turn the form into Mrs. Sharp at least 20 days before the planned absence. Forms can be found on the school website.


Procedure for Riding the Bus with a Friend
- Any student who plans to ride home on a bus with a friend or to another address should follow the procedures below. No student will be allowed to ride to a different address without verification of parent/guardian approval by a school official.

1. A parent/guardian note should be turned in before first block to the receptionist desk at the back of the school. The note should contain the address and information for the bus driver and should include the date and a correct phone number for verification purposes.

2. Pick up the verified note from the receptionist during lunch.

3. Give the note to the bus driver when entering the bus at the end of the school day.

First Priority/FCS

Going green at “the Green”. The Hazel Green High School Special Education Department needs your old cell phones and ink cartridges. Items to be recycled can be given to a Special Education teacher or left for collection at the office. Your support of our recycling fundraiser is greatly appreciated.


Reward Cards:
Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your reward cards when you visit Publix and Hazel Green Pharmacy. Every time you have them swipe your card, HGHS will receive a portion of the sale. If you need a reward card, just stop by the main office to pick one up.

Driver’s permit:
