Technology and Modernization (Lashia Lee 4th hour)
Thematic Statement:
Technology and Modernization should be limited to protect the person(s) personal privacy.
- People should have the right to do as they please throughout their own homes, even if it goes against "Big Brother" because that is ones personal time...
- In chapter 3 on page 34 it says "Smith! (which yelled a voice from the telescreen), Bend lower, please! You can do better than that. You're not trying. Lower, please!" This quote tells us that the telescreen has been watching Winston in his home do his stretches. There is NO privacy.
- Also, "but at any rate they could plug in your wire whenever they wanted to. you had to live-did live, from habit that became instinct-in the assumption that every sound you made was overheard, and, except in darkness, every moment scrutinized."
