Georgia Milestones Testing Tips and Schedule
Dear Parent/Guardian of 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Students:
Our Georgia Milestones Assessment System (GMAS) testing window opens soon and we are making final preparations for a successful testing season. Our testing window begins Thursday, April 12 and closes on Thursday, April 26. As we finalize our plans for this, we wanted to share some information with you.
The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) has posted to its website a Parent’s Question and Answer flyer at Georgia Milestones Parent Question and Answer Brochure. This document will provide answers to questions you may have about Georgia Milestones.
We are also writing to share with you information about online test administration. For a number of years, the GaDOE has been offering online test administrations as part of the state’s student assessment program. The Georgia Milestones Assessment System will continue, and expand upon, the availability of online testing.
We are writing to share with you that Abbotts Hill will again be testing students online during our upcoming administration of the Georgia Milestones assessment. The information below is provided to assist you and your student in becoming familiar with the features of online testing.
- A website, called Experience Online Testing Georgia, has been established to provide an opportunity for students to become familiar with the online testing platform. The website can be found at the link that follows: http://www.gaexperienceonline.com/. This practice site does not require a log-in and is available 7 days a week. Importantly, this practice site is not designed as a “practice test” to measure a student’s knowledge of course content and scores will not be generated. Again, it is intended to allow students to familiarize themselves with the online platform prior to testing.
- We will also be setting up practice sessions during the school day to provide students a similar opportunity to acquaint themselves with the online testing system.
If you have questions about our upcoming spring test administrations for Georgia Milestones, please contact Anita Chan at 470-254-2860 or chan@fultonschools.org.

The Georgia Department of Education has released the 2017-2018 Assessment Guides for the Georgia Milestones as well as Study/Resource Guides. The guides provide practice questions in the same format as Milestones for Reading/Language Arts and Math. Please use the links below to access those guides for practice.
Testing Tips for Students
In preparing students for any assessment, including Milestones, as well as class work, please review these strategies:
For each test question, read the entire question and then all the possible answers very carefully. You can even go back and reread the questions if needed. Do NOT stop reading the answers when you think you have the correct one, don’t think it’s always the best answer. You need to read all possible answers first, and then choose the best one.
Look for key words in the question. You need to read each questions very carefully first, looking for key words, such as the very tricky “not”, “all”, “now”, “always”, “never”, “only”, and “exactly”. These will help you to make a better choice.
Always go back to the passage, word problem, chart, graph, etc. and look for evidence to support your answer. This is a step you need to do. As we said before, there may be two choices out of the four that might be good answers. By going back into the story or problem, it will help you find the correct answer.
Most Important Tip: Make sure to remind yourself, “I can do it!” Just try your best!!
