Thought for the Week
I don't know how long it will last, but I'm not afraid of storms. I'm learning to sail my ship.
- Louisa May Alcott, Little Women
We are in the midst of hurricane season and the weather this week certainly reflects that. The forecasters have predicted several inches of rain, effectively putting the damper on any kind of outdoor activities. Unless, of course, you enjoy the rain.
Storms require us to change our plans. We are fortunate when that is limited to grumbling about rain delays at our favorite sporting events. Ultimately, storms challenge our sense of control. We like being able to plan our days and know what our schedules will look like weeks - or even months - in advance. When clouds roll in, all of that certainty is suddenly up in the air and we have to make choices. Do we sulk because what we wanted to do is now impossible? Or do we adjust and try something else?
Life has its share of storms - both literal and metaphorical - and how we react to them is important. It takes time and, unfortunately, many storms to figure out exactly how to trim our sails to get through them safely.
However, you never have to go into a storm alone. Every ship - no matter how small - works best with a crew. Maybe your boat only needs one other person; maybe it needs 10. Fill your boat with those people who will help you navigate the waters safely.
I hope you take advantage of the stormy weather we are anticipating. Break your routine!: stay at home, read a book, cook dinner with your family, call a friend, play in the rain. Enjoy the respite from demanding schedules and take care of yourself.

Youth Program of Media Presbyterian Church
The Youth Ministry programs at MPC has long been a place that welcomes teenagers to embrace their questions and their struggles with faith in a healthy and safe environment.
The Youth Program is led by Ms. Liz Remelius, Director of Youth Ministries. Liz nurtures a deep love of education and believes that there is "a divine beauty in learning." She hopes that anyone who participates in MPC's Youth Ministry will be equipped to ask questions, search for answers, and turn that knowledge into action, both in the Church and the world.
