INFORMATION and UPDATES
Block Party
Come outside and play at the annual Adams Block Party! This Thursday, September 19, from 5-7:30pm we will be having our annual back-to-school get together. Catch up with old friends and meet some new ones! We will have free food while supplies last (Papa's Pizza, salad, fruit) and lots of fun activities from the Wellness Committee and members of the Corvallis Community including a visit from Fire Department and Bookmobile!
Volunteers help us keep these fun events going! If you have a spare moment, please sign up for a short volunteer shift. We especially need help serving food to keep lines moving smoothly. https://signup.com/go/yxzoUYF
Thank you, hope to see you there!
Adams Wear
We’re excited to announce that every student enrolled at Adams this year will receive a royal blue T-shirt with the Adams Alligator logo and free of cost. These Adams shirts should be worn for our weekly Adams Pride Days (Fridays), field trips, and any day they wish to show their Adams school spirit!
Fall Shirt Swap at the Block Party and Curriculum Nights
If your Adams shirt doesn’t quite fit since this last school year, just stop by the Adams Wear Table to donate or swap out your gently used royal blue Adams shirt or hoodie for another gently used one in a different size! Only clean, gently used shirts please. APA provided shirts, orders, and size requests also available at the Adams Wear table. Stop on by!
What to expect:
In the coming week, information will be sent out requesting your student’s T-shirt size and his/her choice of cotton or athletic style dry-fit T-shirt. For those who already have a royal blue Adams shirt that fits and do not want another, we’ll have a “no thank you” option. If you would like to swap for another gently used shirt in a different size, we will be offering a Fall Shirt Swap/Donation event at the upcoming Block Party and Curriculum Nights (please consider this great earth friendly option!). Save our Earth One Shirt at a Time! We also have in stock several smaller cotton T-shirts (for incoming Kindergartners, etc.) and a limited number of medium to large sized cotton shirts that will be available (1 free per enrolled student) at these September events. Skip the order wait time and get yours early! First come, first serve, until they’re gone.
We will be taking orders beginning at the Block Party on Sept. 19 through October 4th for the following Adams Wear items, all in royal blue with the Adams Alligator logo. Adams Wear makes great gifts for family members, friends, and Adams volunteers!
Short sleeve Cotton T-shirt (Youth, Mens crew/Ladies crew or v-neck) - $15 (1 free per enrolled student)
Short Sleeve Dry-Fit T-Shirts (Youth/Adult)- $15
Long Sleeve Cotton T-Shirt (Youth/Adult)- $15
Hooded sweatshirts (Youth/Adult)- Cotton $25, Dry-Fit $35
PE and Wellness
PE NEWS
Students warmed up by running, bear walking, skipping, and shuffling around four cones; followed by a series of strength exercises in squad spots. Then, we played Bulldozers and Builders, a cooperative game to build physical strength and teamwork. That was followed by Scarf Toss, a cooperative and challenging throw and catch game. We finished with a Roller Coaster activity and some mindful "starfish breathing." Ask your child about PE.
WELLNESS NEWS
At Thursday's Block Party, "Recess" will be offered on the intermediate playground. There will be a dozen or more games to play WITH your child. The class that records the most participation on the "Recess Passport" wins an extra PE class. AIM is off to a running start with over 100 kids on the path this week. Yoga is offered each Monday and Friday morning. Plan ahead for the Cheldelin Middle School Grade 3-5 Mile Race on October 17. See Mr. Behrens for a registration sheet for this free event.
Room Parents
We are still looking for room parents for the 2019-2020 school year and we're hoping to have room parents in place before Curriculum Night.
If you want to help out your child's teacher and have the chance to get to know other parents and children in your child's class, this is the job for you!
Time commitment is variable. The main responsibilities are:
- Helping teachers with prep work as needed (time commitment is teacher dependent and mutually decided upon by you and the teacher).
- Creating a sign up for Fresh Fruit Friday to recruit parents to bring in fresh fruit for the kids snack each Friday. (1-2 hours total)
- Communicating with classroom parents about upcoming events and APT volunteer needs (1-2 hours per month).
- Decorating two doors for teacher appreciation week in April (5-8 hours total). You can recruit other classroom parents to help you with this as well.
Being a room parent is a great way to be involved in your child's classroom, to build a relationship with your child's teacher, and to be involved with the APT.
If you would like to sign up as a Room Parent for your child's class, please use this link, https://signup.com/go/EZLfprw.

Public Charge Facts for Families
Federal Public Charge Rule Facts
The Corvallis School District works to provide a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students and we believe that students are better prepared for learning the skills needed to be successful for their future when we remove barriers.
This message is to notify all families of a new federal rule that changes how people are found to be a "Public Charge". It allows the federal immigration agency to look at a longer list of public benefits, and more factors such as family income, when deciding whether a person is likely to become a Public Charge in the future. This new rule will go into effect on October 15, 2019. Benefits that many of our families utilize and WILL NOT be counted in a public charge test include the following:
School meals
Special Education
School-based Health Services
Food from the Food Bank
WIC (nutrition assistance for women, infants, and children to age 5)
Oregon's Cover All Kids Program
Please contact your school's Principal, Family Liaison, Health Navigator if you have questions.
