MS. MITCHELL'S CLASSROOM NEWSLETTER: 2020-2021
WEEK TWENTY-EIGHT: MARCH 22ND - 26TH
Red House famiLEEs, here is our weekly newsletter filled with news you can use!
WHAT WE ARE LEARNING
READING & WRITING
Reading this week, we continued our read aloud, The Thief of Always. Learners are enjoying the mystery about Harvey and his new friends. During our unit on Fantasy, learners used their selected novels with their book club and applied life lessons learned in fiction to their own lives. In Writing, we worked on a creative writing activity about the The Tallest House of Cards.
Math
In Math, we are representing and solving problems related to perimeter, area, and volume.
SCIENCE
In Science, we continued our Earth Science Unit. This week we demonstrated that Earth's rotation causes the day and night.
SOCIAL STUDIES
In Social Studies this week, we ended our unit about the Great Depression and the effects on America's economy.
Leader of the Week: Gibson Petree
Our Leadership Quality of the week is Compassion
LEEdership Quality of the Week:
ability to share another's feelings or ideas
A lesson in Leadership:
When a designer is having a serious conversation with a learner, don't look at that learner. You wouldn't want your classmates looking at you in a similar situation.
Lee Quote of the Week:
“It is the weak who are cruel. Gentleness can only be expected from the strong." -Leo Roskin
Important Information
Istation: At the beginning of every month, learners will take their monthly Istation assessments. They know the routine for this - there are 4 parts to this assessment - Vocabulary, Spelling, Comprehension (reading a story & answering questions), and Fluency. It is very important that you DO NOT assist your learner with this assessment.
Schoology: As we continue with virtual learning, Schoology is a very important tool during this time. We know some of our learners are using the app, but it is best for them to use the web-based version: https://schoology.coppellisd.com/
Learners need to make sure they are completing and submitting all of their work for each course since that is how we are taking attendance. In addition, although online learning is taking place at home, learners should be starting and finishing their work on their own as they would in-person at school.
