Pinewood Weekly Newsletter
September 24, 2021
At Pinewood School, we are committed to the health and safety of our school community. Related to this, I am using my message this week to detail our protocols and procedures for COVID-19.
To start, we have had instances of parents getting a positive COVID-19 diagnosis. If this happens, please keep your child home for your quarantine period and contact the school office. We will work with you to determine a return date and discuss testing requirements for your child. In addition, please do not send your child to school if somebody in your household is awaiting the results of a COVID test.
In the event that a student in your child's class tests positive, we will immediately conduct contact tracing to determine which students were seated within six feet for more than 15 minutes of the infected student in the classroom. We will also ask if the student rides the bus or attends after-school programs. The students that are determined to have prolonged exposure with this student will then be quarantined. During this quarantine, the school will offer an independent study contract and provide work for the student to complete at home.
Families of quarantined students have three choices providing their child remains asymptomatic:
- Quarantine their student for 10 full days without a COVID test and send them back on day 11.
- Quarantine their student for 7 days and have their child take an antigen diagnostic COVID test (not a home test) on day 5 or 6 of the quarantine. If they test negative, they may return on the 8th day. This option means the student is quarantined for a full seven days.
- The student may take part in a "modified quarantine". This means they may remain in school; however, they may not take part in extracurricular activities or after-school programs during these 10 days. In order to complete the modified quarantine, the students must take an approved COVID test on days 1, 3, and 6 and the parent must provide these negative test results for their child to stay in school.
Please know that if your child is in an indoor setting (i.e. classroom, bus, or after school program) with a student that tested positive for COVID and it is determined that your child did not have prolonged exposure to the student, we will still send home a letter stating that there was a case so that you can closely monitor your child for symptoms. In this case, your child may continue to come to school.
In closing, please continue to screen your child for symptoms every day before they come to school. If you have questions, call the school for assistance. We will continue to have our students wear masks indoors and we will maintain our sanitation practices.
Thank you for your support and understanding,

Congratulations to Ms. Cassara's class for winning our contest to name our office Falcon. Last year local artist Matt Warden donated this carving to Pinewood School. Going forward we will call our falcon Caldor. Thank you to this group of third graders for coming up with such a fitting name!
Lost and Found Clothing
Has your child misplaced a sweatshirt, jacket, or hat at school? Clothing items found around campus are taken to the lost and found. This bin is stored in a cabinet under the stage in the multipurpose room. Encourage your child to check it out! Writing their name on the tag is very helpful as well.

News From The Pollock Pines Public LIbrary
Although the public library is not affiliated with our district, we encourage our families and students to take advantage of their services. The Pollock Pines Branch Librarian, Kris Spiegelberg wanted to share the following items.
El Dorado Community Hubs have a team of specialists to assist individuals and families with support and services at the Pollock Pines Library. They can help with forms, supplies and support through many avenues to guide you with the help you seek. Call to schedule an appointment.
Every Wednesday the library hosts Early Literacy Play for ages 0-5 at 11:00am before opening to the public. Playtime helps children learn important language and social skills.
