Carolina Northern Flying Squirrel
By: Alysha Holmes
Info
The Carolina Northern Flying Squirrel is also known as Glaucomys sabrinus. Carolina northern flying squirrels are found on high mountain peaks in southwest Virginia, western North Carolina, and eastern Tennessee. It is endangered because the limited and discontinuous range of this sub-species in the Southern Appalachians makes it vulnerable to a number of natural and human-related impacts. To protect it they have put it on the federal endangered species list and safe nesting sites are in place.
