One last bus ride! Seniors return to their elementary school
Graduating seniors boarded buses for a visit to their elementary school where their academic journey began. Elementary students and staff lined the hallways to honor the graduates as they paraded through their school. Seniors also reconnected with their teachers, reminisced with fellow students and made an impression on even the youngest learners, reminding them of the importance of staying in school and graduating.
Senior Honoring Ceremony recognizes achievement of graduation
Family and friends gathered to honor indigenous students in the achievement of graduation. After a feast of buffalo and wild rice, students were presented with blankets and a stoll to wear at graduation from the parent committee and eagle feathers, the highest form a gift and presented by Native American Coordinator Stephanie Spencer. The key note speaker was Miss Minnesota Rachel Evangelisto. From left, Lexi Boshey – Bois Forte Ojibwe, Maia Sharlow – Lac Du Flambeau Ojibwe, Silvia Longoria – Winnebago, Miss Minnesota Rachel Evangelisto, Sydney Bainville – Shawnee
Malachi Thoennes – Leech Lake Ojibwe, and Sophie Brown – Cherokee
A shout-out to the Centennial community for your support of our graduates!
This year, 92 Centennial High School students were awarded scholarships totaling $82,000. Scholarships are based on academics, leadership, school and community involvement, college major, and activities. Donors include area businesses, community and school organizations, and families in the community who have donated to the scholarship fund.
Scholarship Highlights: US Airforce ROTC Scholarship and Naval Academy Acceptance
US Airforce ROTC Scholarship: Braeden Krieger
Braeden Krieger received the Air Force ROTC full-ride scholarship at Texas A&M which has the largest ROTC program in the country. Krieger completed the six-month application process of physical testing and training which began in his junior year. He plans to study aerospace engineering with career options of either an aerospace engineer in the Air Force or a pilot. Depending on his career choice, he will have to serve a minimum of four years. Krieger will also be part of the Air Force Marching Band, continuing to play tenor sax.
Naval Academy Acceptance: Anna Peterson
Anna Peterson earned a full-ride scholarship in exchange for five years of service in the Navy after college. Peterson was accepted in February after an application process that included writing essays on community volunteering and involvement in athletics. She also underwent a variety of physical testing. As part of the application process, she interviewed state representatives and senators and gained a nomination from them to submit to the Academy. She was appointed by the Naval Academy before being accepted and a representative from the Naval Academy visited the high school throughout the first semester of her senior year. Peterson heads to training at the end of June and will be enrolled full-time in college while engaging in full-time military training.

What you need to know about immunizations for the 2023-2024 school year
Minnesota Statute 121A.15 requires children enrolled in childcare, early childhood education, or school to be immunized against certain diseases, unless the child is medically or non-medically exempt.
If proper documentation is not provided, students will be unable to attend school after November 1st, 2023. What you need to do:
- Contact your health care provider and review your child’s immunization status to make sure they are up to date.
- If you missed a required vaccination, make an appointment with a healthcare provider or local clinic as soon as possible.
- Follow up with your students’ school if they have reached out to you regarding your students’ immunization status.
- Turn in medical (must be signed by a health care provider) and non-medical (must be notarized) exemption forms to your child’s school if they are exempt from immunizations.
Visit health.state.mn.us/people/immunize for vaccine schedules, exemption forms and more information including where to get free/low cost immunizations today. For more information, visit the Centennial website. Please reach out to your students’ school with any questions.
