Summer School Options
Students who have not completed their courses successfully should give serious and careful consideration to remediating their grade in summer school. Failure to remediate failing grades can result in making inadequate progress toward graduation. Summer school options are available on our webpage which you can access by clicking the Summer School button below. While we will mail out information to all students who qualify for summer school this year, that won't occur until our school year concludes. Unfortunately, with the late start of our school year, combined with plenty of weather related days off, has resulted in a late end of year date for Lakeland. Some of the registration dates for summer school are our last days of school or in the days immediately following our dismissal. For the purpose of planning please keep in mind the following:
General Guidelines:
- Grades below 70% are failing
- Students must earn a minimum of 55% in their courses to qualify for summer school
Grades 7 & 8
- Students who fail 1 major subject are suggested to attend summer school.
- Students who fail 2 major subjects are required to successfully complete summer school. If they do not, they will be retained in their current grade for next school year. Students who fail 3 or more major subjects will be retained.
Grades 9-12
Graduation requirements are as follows:
- 4 credits of English
- 3 credits of Mathematics *
- 3 credits of Science
- 3 credits of Social Studies
- 2 credits of Arts/Humanities
- 1 credit of PE
- 1/2 credit of Health
- 7.5 credits of Electives
- Total of 24 credits *
20 hours of community service
In grades 9-12, students are promoted as follows:
- Grade 10 = successful completion of at least 4 credits in grade 9
- Grade 11 = successful completion of at least 8 credits in grades 9 & 10 *
- Grade 12 = successful completion of at least 16 credits in grades 9-11 *
* denotes recent change to previous policy
Of particular note....
Scranton School District has changed the format of their summer school program from a traditional in person program to a cyber program.
