A Message from your principal, Mrs. Sanchez
Dear BSI Students & Parents,
This Smore was created as a resource to maintain and extend student learning while school is not in session. Paper packets will also be available to students without internet access. Work shared online will be monitored by teachers and paper assignments will be need to be submitted every Friday during the announced times. Student progress will be determined based on work completed weekly. If students have questions, they should be in contact with their teachers via email.
Students, please remember that at BSI, "We Inspire. I Inspire. Inspire someone Today." What I need from you is to continue to inspire us and do your very best on these online or packet lessons.

After reading the article solve the problems at the end of the article on a piece of notebook paper. Take a picture of your work and submit to your teachers Remind101 or their email.
There is also a graphing game at bottom that you can do for practice.

5th Grade Math, Wednesday, March 25, 2020 (Day 3)

Click on the new assignment open for you titled “Perimeter Detective” for Perimeter practice. Once completed with that lesson click on the assignment titled “Area: Squares and Rectangles”.

5th Grade Math, Thursday, March 26, 2020 (Day 4)

Once you have watched the video. Go out to Clever website account and log into your Mathletics account. Click on the new opened assignment titled “Volume: Cube” and complete. Once completed with that assignment click on the next assignment titled “Volume: Rectangular Prism”.

Go to Clever website and log into your ExactPath account. You can pick the different lessons that you would like to do. You are to spend at least 30 minutes on your ExactPath today. We will be checking to see if do.

Monday:
We are starting Module 3: Natural Disasters located in HMH.
-Students will need to answer the essential question “How can learning about natural disasters make us safer?” by using the “Notes” icon. The “Notes” icon is located at the upper right hand corner of the screen, it looks like a post-it note and pencil. On that same page, students will need to watch the video (don’t worry, it’s only 3 minutes and 46 seconds) and adjust their answer to the essential question if needed.
-Read through the “Words about Natural Disasters” page. This page goes over key vocabulary for our stories.
-After reading the “Words about Natural Disasters” page, students will need to create a Knowledge Map on a sheet of notebook paper. There is an example in their reading.
-Read “Who Studies Natural Disasters?” and make connections on this page using the “Notes” icon.
Tuesday:
Prepare to Read: Eruption! Volcanoes and Science of Saving Lives
-Complete “Notice and Note Numbers and Statistics” Reading Page and Question. Write answer with complete sentences.
-Read “Eruption! Volcanoes and Science of Saving Lives” paragraphs 1-27. Annotate using the “Notes” icon.
Wednesday:
Continue Reading “Eruption! Volcanoes and Science of Saving Lives”
-Start reading the section titled “Looking for Lumps” through the end of the story. Be sure to annotate using the “Notes” Icon.
-Answer questions 1-3 at the end of the text (this is located on the page right after the story). Be sure to write your answers with complete sentences.
Thursday:
Write a News Report
-Use complete sentences to complete this assignment. This assignment is located after the questions page you completed on Wednesday.
Friday:
Prepare to View: Between the Glacier and the Sea: The Alaska Earthquake
-Complete “Notice and Note Numbers and Statistics” Reading Page and Question. Write answer with complete sentences.
-Watch the video (2 minutes 44 seconds) and complete the two questions that go along with it. Be sure to write complete sentences.
-Complete the Collaborative Discussion. There are three questions in this discussion and they need to be answered with complete sentences.
-We will NOT be completing the “Write a Video Promotion” assignment.

Once you have read the first paper and understand how to read triple beam balance, record your answers on a sheet of paper and take a picture of your answers to email them to your Science teacher. If you prefer you may copy and paste the questions and type the answers in an email to your teacher. You may also submit to your teacher's Remind 101
Thursday-
Click on the document below labeled 5th Grade Science- Thursday, March 26th doc. Select Microsoft Word to open the document. This is all force vocabulary. You should be familiar with all of these words. You will need to write a sentence for each vocabulary word. Write your sentences on a sheet of paper and take a picture of them then email them to your Science teacher. If you prefer to type the sentences you may do so. You may also submit to your teacher's Remind 101. Please put your first and last name. If you have the materials, please make flash cards. They can be on any type of paper or anything. One side put the word and on the other put the definition. You can do this with any of the vocab words as well.
Friday-
Use the link above (highlight link, right click, then click open hyperlink) to create different circuits. Your supplies for this virtual lab are on the left side. You also have a conductors and insulators to use with your circuit. Use the arrows to get more supplies. Get creative. Remember if it’s closed it flows, if it’s opened its broken.
Remember you need 3 things to make a circuit work:
Wires, power source (battery), and an object to turn on and off
BUT, you can add other things such as insulators and conductors, or even a switch.
After you have done this several times. Draw an open and closed circuit. Labeling all parts of the circuit.

How to get to Weekly Reader 23
Students will login to their Clever accounts. They can be found on the BSISD website under “Parent and Student Resources”.
After logging into their Clever account, they will then click on the red “Studies Weekly” icon.
They will click on “USA Studies Weekly 1565 to Present”.
It will give you an option to select your teacher. You will select your Social Studies teacher. If you have had a schedule change to a different teacher and they are not available just select the Social Studies teacher you had before.

It will take you to a page where you can read through the Weekly reader. We can follow along and see if the student has been highlighting and doing the activities.
