Sully's Salutations

Welcome 2016

January 18th, 2016

Good morning,

As I sit with my coffee, my favorite morning news show and the beautiful, pristine snow in my backyard I am grateful for so much!

Firstly, I would like to share some personal good news with you, I am cancer free! This makes the start of 2016 very different than the start of 2015 for me. I can't thank the ASMS community enough for the love, support and care you showed me throughout the year. It has been quite a journey but one in which I have learned that a positive attitude and gratitude for those around you does make a difference!

I would like to share a story with you about our Annie Sullivan community. On Friday, one of our substitute teachers stopped me because she wanted to share with me how impressed she is with our students and staff. She said that every time she comes to our school the students are so polite, friendly and warm and the same of our staff. She elaborated that our students thank her as they exit the class. I was like the proud mama and I know as you read this you are as proud as I am. Please take time today to thank your child(ren) for making us proud!

On a final note as I was listening to the news today, I was struck by a news story on Martin Luther King Day. We should look at this day, as not a day off but rather a day on. We should try to find a way to give back to our community - to serve it in some way - even the smallest of ways.

To that end I have embedded that news story, as well as the link to the MLK site dedicated to service. I also embedded a new Kid President video on MLK day that includes his ideas to give and a wonderful uplifting YouTube clip of the Maccabeats a Capella group teaming up with Naturally 7 a Capella group to honor Dr. King at the Lincoln Memorial singing James Taylor's Shed A Little Light.

Enjoy this day and the gift of time.

Warm regards,

Beth Wittcoff
